What do you mean key? I used a screwdriver on the stock pulley to hold it still while I broke free the bolt. and in the AFX since I didn't want to bend the aluminum I screwed two bolts into the holes in the pulley for the harmonic balancer tool to be used and put a screw driver between the bolts and the frame support to hold the pulley from turning. There are no timing marks on the stock crank pulley. And it's not a harmonic balancer so it doesn't matter what orientation it goes on. The AFX pulley will com eoff with a harminic balancer tool, that is what the three threaded holes are for, bolt the harmonic balancer removal tool and press against the crank bolt (please loosen it first )
