111681, question about AFX pulley Posted by kent75, May-20-01 07:09 AM
Just got it in this week and try to put it on yesterday, but I notice something is not right, the stock pulley came with a "key" for you to hold the pulley in place with the crank but the AFX I got didn't provide the "key" so I think why we need to heat the pulley before we put it on. But my question is If later on I need to replace my timming belt how can I be able to take the pulley off, and how about the timming mark, looks like it came with some timming mark on the stock pulley .(I saw it on a program call shop key from my friend's goodyear store.)Anyone who have install the pulley on your own please point me some directions. Thanks.

What do you mean key? I used a screwdriver on the stock pulley to hold it still while I broke free the bolt. and in the AFX since I didn't want to bend the aluminum I screwed two bolts into the holes in the pulley for the harmonic balancer tool to be used and put a screw driver between the bolts and the frame support to hold the pulley from turning. There are no timing marks on the stock crank pulley. And it's not a harmonic balancer so it doesn't matter what orientation it goes on. The AFX pulley will com eoff with a harminic balancer tool, that is what the three threaded holes are for, bolt the harmonic balancer removal tool and press against the crank bolt (please loosen it first ;-) )
If you have any other questions, or I didn't answer your original question let me know.
