Longs rods increase torque by increasing the time the piston dwells at TDC.

There's also the stroker kit you could go with. You can make even more power with one. A storker kit consists of a shaved down crank thus being able to yield a longer rod and having a longer stroke, hence the name. This brings in more air and fuel to make a bigger boom.

Money wise your better off going with some Eagle long rods. They will withstand up to 500hp. Your probably not going to be breaking that anytime soon.

Hope that helps you out a bit.

Pretty sure the long rods provide a more favorable rod ratio, meaning not only will they give you a bit better torque, but the engine will like high rpm running more than stock. A stroker will have a less favorable rod ratio and will result in your not being able to wind the engine out as high as stock.

Eagle is a good brand and will hold up long time if you take care of them. Going with the long rods is the best compromise in price and performance among stock, long rod, and stroker builds. Stroker will require custom crank, rods, and piston. Long rods are custom in themselves, and use your stock crank, which is a major cost savings.

Also, when using long rods, do you have to use a long rod specific piston?

*not trying to hijack, this helps me just as much as it helps you. I'm slapping a t25 on soon and building up a shortblock*

Bump and answer.

You need long-rod specific pistons.

This just in from my drag racing/car audio guru buddy across the street from me.

The wrist pin has to be higher up otherwise the piston will hit your valves and you will throw things, drop f-boms and have to spend more money than you should have in the first place.....
