I've pulled the engine+trans, just the engine, and just the trans. In my experiences, the longer you can leave the trans in the car, the less scars you will have.
-Remove the battery and intake stuff.
-Drain the oil and coolant.
-Depressurize the fuel rail.
-Disconnect the wire harness and tuck it out of the way.
-Label all connectors for easy reference later -Unbolt the PS/AC and lay them over the side of the bay.
-Remove the crank pulley - underdrive or other.
-Remove the header/exhaust manifold.
-Get under the car and drop the cross member, then...
-Remove the access panel to the starter drive ring/clutch.
-Remove the (4) bolts that hold those together.
-Support engine on hoist.
-Remove bolts holding block to trans.
That's more or less it. It's been at least 2 years since I've been that deep in a 2GNT, but if you go that route, you should be able to figure out any problems that show up. Good luck.
