#4062, "$500.00 is too much for clutch install"

i just got quoted 500 bucks to install a clutch into my gs.
that seems a little high to me but its the same shop that built the car so i know that they know the car inside and out
but still

i have found some written tech guides on how to do this
but is there one somewhere that has pics as well
this is the biggest undertaking i have attempted with the car sp i am a little apprehensive

my father in law has a hydrolic lift and multiple floor jacks so moving the car around wont be a problem plus i have the haynes manual

is it worth the undertaking or should someone who has never done this install before not even touch it

yeah definitly do it yourself. if you know how to turn a wrench, you can get through it. its not exactly the easiest thing to do, but its not really too big of a deal. once you learn how to do it, next time you have to take out the trans it'll be a 2 hour job. if that.

I have the chiltons manual
are there any others such as haynes that are a better guide for this
project

i am guessing that a new rear mainseal is in order as well
any other gaskets i should worry about while i am in there

First off, unless someone already played with your clutch, you have a modular clutch. Its basically the clutch pressure plate, clutch disc, and flywheel all riveted together. This may help you understand the difference;

http://www.2gnt.com/index.php?d=Non%20Modular%20VS%20Modular%20Clutch

I recently did a write up in the wiki on pulling a transmission (I didn't have time to do the write up on installation).

http://www.2gnt.com/index.php?d=Removing%20your%20transmission

Now this is the drop down version. some like to lift it up out of the car, or even take out the engine and tranny together. But this wiil give you an idea of what it will take.

Don't forget to browse the Wiki when looking for answers,

Good luck with the clutch job.
