Hello, fellow members, just joined today and need to be
steered in the right direction. I recently purchased a 1993
Chrysler New Yorker Salon, for just for a second car, however
the transmission, I dont know if it is slipping or just plain
going bad, when I put it in reverse after maybe 6 seconds it
slams into reverse and when I put it in drive, it takes maybe
10-15 seconds before it goes in gear, also when driving I have
no idea what gear it wont come out of posssibly 3rd, and when
I let off the accelerator it goes into a nutruel mode and then
slams back into drive, so I can only drive maybe 45-50 mph and
the transmission sounds terrible, it sounds like a bearing is
gone and also it clunking under the front end of the
car...HELP!!
Do I rebuild for $2200.00, get a new one for $1500.00, or go
to a junk yard for used one $1000.00 installed , or is it some
parts failed and not the entire transmission, according to
another web-site it is a #A604 model???

Hello, sorry for taking so long to get back to you, the trans.
fluid looks brownish red, smells maybe could be burned(kinda
half&half) and there are 114K on the transmision. I
brought the car maybe a month ago for 2nd car, I paid a
couple of hundreds for the car, mainly because it had only
114K, and the car is in excellent shape, other ownwer did not
want to invest money, so he sold it to me for $200.00, the
price he just paid for 2 new tires.

I would say that a fluid andd filter change would be in order. If you do it yourself make sure you follow the procedures outlined elsewhere on this forumn (flushing converter, how to change filter, type of fluid, etc.) and you should be right as rain.
