#27768, "RE: 17 inch rim questions/concerns... help!" In response to In response to 0
I ride on 17's, with a 225-45-17 tire. NO probs what so ever. The speedo is off by 3 mph acording to several speed signs, and the datalogger. So if my speedo says 60 mph, i'm actually going 57 mph..but thats always good Tire size along with rim size is what will make your speedo off. You can go with a larger than stock rim, but you need to use the proper size tire to match the rim to keep your speedo at the stock speed reading. So basically if you take a stock 14" wheel and stock tire size for that wheel, you want to take the new 17" wheel, and have the outside diameter of the tire on that 17" wheel match the outside diameter of the 14" wheel and tire, so that the whole tire/wheel assemble makes the same amount of turns as stock setup. With larger rims, you need a shorter wall hieght on the tire to make up for the larger wheels...of course you dont have to, but the speedo will be more off on speed the more off you are on the overall outside diameter..
