Hey, Im going to order some 17" HP Typhoons for my 95 Talon ESi, and my dad has some questions about em...

First off, right now I'm rollin on the stock 14s, and he was wondering if there will be negative effects from going 14 to 17?

Also, he's concerned that since I'm ordering them off a website (wheelmax.com), they will be crappy quality. If you've ordered from them can you post up about the quality of your wheels?

Thats about it, anything else you could add would be great. Thanks for helping me out on my mod list, too

hey there...i work at discount tire(hence the name), and you can fit seventeens no problem as long as you have a 5 on 114.3mm(5 on 4.5") bolt pattern with a FWD offset. i have 18" konigs on my eclipse and i know i can go to 19's if i want to. so you should be fine as long as it fits those two specs.

1995 RS AT w/196,000 mile
KYB AGX w/Eibach Sportline($485.0 )
10.3mm OBX wires
NGK Plugs
18" Konig Elan
225/40-18 Michelin Pilot Sport
Toucan Muffler w/2.5" catback
OBX Header w/ hollowed kitty
Port/Polished Head w/ SS Valves

to come...
lambo doors possibly

the only negative effect that i could think of is that when u get past 17inch rims and go to 18 or 19 u start messing with the perfomance of the car. also seeing how u have a bigger wheel diameter it off set the speed.... so if it says you are going 60 u might be going 63 i believe correct me if i am wrong......

yup your right I used to work at america tires so ya your right. every car was made with certin weel diameter. so to go bigger rim u have to go to a smaller tire. so if your going with 17" i say the biggest series tire u can get is 45. I personaly when with Toyo proxes T1S 225\45\17 (kinda pricy but i got them when my discount when i worked there) Thats what i did, but any 45 series tire should be fine.

I ride on 17's, with a 225-45-17 tire. NO probs what so ever. The speedo is off by 3 mph acording to several speed signs, and the datalogger. So if my speedo says 60 mph, i'm actually going 57 mph..but thats always good Tire size along with rim size is what will make your speedo off. You can go with a larger than stock rim, but you need to use the proper size tire to match the rim to keep your speedo at the stock speed reading. So basically if you take a stock 14" wheel and stock tire size for that wheel, you want to take the new 17" wheel, and have the outside diameter of the tire on that 17" wheel match the outside diameter of the 14" wheel and tire, so that the whole tire/wheel assemble makes the same amount of turns as stock setup. With larger rims, you need a shorter wall hieght on the tire to make up for the larger wheels...of course you dont have to, but the speedo will be more off on speed the more off you are on the overall outside diameter..

Thanks . Has anyone ordered from wheelmax.com? I know some people have here cause I've read their threads before, but I can't remember names. If you have, can you please reassure me of their quality/your experience.

Also, what do you guys think of the HP Typhoons:

40 series sidewall makes me nervous. I use to have 18" Konig Monsoons (I still think they are the best looking wheel on an Eclipse). Anyways, the 40 series sidewall is not very forgiving. Be very careful when driving not to hit any potholes and watch out for curbs at banks. I cliped the edge of the curb coming out of my bank and BAM. Sidewall ripped, wheel got a kick in the lip, and I got really pissed off.

I almost ordered some Shoguns form wheelmax. Call them and ask them what the price would be with 215/45/17. I can't rember what they told me but it wasn't that much more...$50 at most.

I like the wheels, they are clean looking.

Try 235/40s..fat ass tires. They are like for stangs and supras but they look bad-ass and the handling is pretty good...rite rick

I have 17's with 205/40's. My speedometer is off by a few. Like 3-4. But if I am going 45, it is on49-50 according to the radar signs. 45's on and it was accurate. 215-45-17 is the right size. but with 215-45's and sportlines, the rear scrubbed the fenderwells. even after rolling them. So, I have prokits now, and my next tires will be 215-45 again.
