another thought on this subject:
If you have the engine turning at a lower rpm at the usual cruising speed, you may find yourself unable to pass with any authority unless you downshift into 4th, which could be scary if you were doing 75 or so. Well, maybe not scary, but certainly not typical of a leisurely pass as usual.
