how are the subs positioned? try pointing them toward the back as far back as they can go, or towards the hatch glass as far back as they can go. this should help w/ the phase alighnment and reduce destructive interference.
how good is the box? if it is sub-par and has air leaks or flexes under pressure, get a new box.
how are the subs? maby one of them has a fried voice coil? try running one at a time and see if one of them is dead or sounds messed up. press lightly on the duscap with even pressure (with the system off ) and see if you can hear a grinding noise. you may have to remove one of the subs to perform this test, as you wont be able to push very hard while compressing the air inside the box and fighting against both subs suspentions. it might just be a loose wire.
