I was reading the install instruction of my deltagate wastegate and it says that no gasket should be utilized in mounting on the cast exhaust manifold. On my star kit, I received two gaskets and thus used both of them. Should I have not used a gasket in between the manifold and wastegate?

BTW, who here is using the wastegate in deltagate mode? (the vacuum port is plumbed into the intake manifold)?

it's just a gasket. I used mine. It's not going to hurt anything. I am also running my wastegate plumbed to the nipple on the turbo compressor housing. I ran it without and didn't notice any difference.

Darkone, you have it running in "wastegate" mode..

I'm planning on plumbing the vacuum port to the intake manifold...call me paranoid, I just don't want to detonate! My car not being able to start was already scary enough...

It's running in Deltagate mode. I gets boost straight from the turbo rather than the intake manifold.

to get deltagate mode don't you plumb both openings on the wastegate?

Question regarding your wastegates: where does the discharge go? Does it vent into the atmosphere or back into the exhaust system?

heheheheh...well to be emission legal, we should vent to back into exhaust pipe.

But right now I have it venting to atmostphere.

To vent back to exhaust pipe would require some custom welding...nothing too impossible.

leon:

Your system is equipped to vent back into exhaust, but you are not using this feature?

He's speaking of the "Deltagate" feature in the wastegates included with the Star kit. It has a fitting for vacuum, as well as one for boost. In a high load situation, it is possible for the turbo to spin up due to the increased exhaust energy from the load, but to still have a vacuum condition at the manifold. From what i understand, this is bad, so the wastegate compensates by sensing the boosted condition at the turbo and the vacuum condition at the manifold and opening to vent some exhaust energy. The dumptube from Star just drops down about six inches from the manifold and stops.

Until i have to pass inspection, then i'll likely have it welded back into the downpipe.
