OK...I faintly remember someone mentioning this before but here it goes... I'm sure you can't use the 4g63 tranny from a GSX for the swap because it wouldn't bolt up to the our engine. But can you get a Dodge Caravan AWD tranny and use the GSX rear end? Or do you have to get it all from the caravan? Just curious.
RRE did it and it cost like 6grand total. and they're a shop. i remember alot of talk about most of the parts being custom fab for the job. AWD on the 420a isn't very easy and even if you pull it off you need alot of power (turbo or alot of NA power) to displace the added weight. a GSX weighs about 800lbs more than us dry. with a driver it's prolly about 1000lbs more.
A 2G GSX weighs in around 3100 lbs. My 1st gen weighs 3050 without me in it. Don't make it sound like they are heavier than they really are. A 2G GS weighs about 2800-2850lbs. The only significant difference in the weight is the transfer case, driveshaft, and rear diff/axles. That stuff does not weigh 800 lbs. My roommate's 97 TSi AWD weighs 3100 lbs. and it is automatic. (HEAVY tranny)
Hah!! Nope! No recently acquired family here mrlocalpimp! In the link that brynden provided someone mentioned that the caravan was based on the 420a platform. I know about dodge making an awd caravan so I figured that you could use those parts for the awd conversion on a 2gnt. I dunno, maybe I'm just the victim of my overactive imagination!

i only said that because VX100 said awhile back that a local guys GSX weighed in that high at the track. i have nothing against a GSX. i'm actually keeping my ear to the ground for a decent one to come along. rather do that than fix my 420a.
Boosting and tuning a 2gnt i can understand. It's good for people on a budget and aren't willing to pay out the ass for a gst outright only to replace most of the turbo system anyway. Then there's the possibility of having your crankshaft get up and walk away on you. Nothing like replacing/fixing the block or swapping in a 6 bolt eh?
But yeah, for the money it should cost for that conversion, you could have bought two 1g gsx's or a 2g gsx/tsi awd with a 6 bolt swap. The beauty of it is you can keep your 2gnt FWD and have a really cool 4g63 powered awd car too. 2 dsms ARE better than 1.
If you have a big bank account or won the lotto and/or feel like challenging yourself.....ignore this completely and do it anyway.
