134496, AMM Intake Manifold Install Posted by Fotowntalon, Jul-02-11 10:07 AM
Decided to start a new thread dedicated to this pain in the pee whole to not clog the build thread. So here is where I currently am.
Had to disconnect heater hoses and fuel line to drop manifold in.
Had to remove windshield wiper fluid reservoir to fit the Throttle Body (still brainstorming a way to get it all to fit).
Have removed the cruise control cable, and with the remaining throttle cable relocated it 2 holes down that I just discovered, seems to give me enough room. (will get pics up later).
Going to have to grab more wire loom because had to remove the MAP/break booster sensor from the wire route it normally followed.
Think I need to find either a connector or extra long heater hose to make sure it doesn't contact the intake manifold. These are my ideas and hopefully all goes well, things sitting so low have yet to even think about how the intake is going to work... one problem at a time right? Feel free to post ideas to help me out

Post up some pics so we can see what youre dealing with here. One thing to remember is bullett doesnt have a washer tank, heater hoses (or possibly the whole core at this point), a big ass battery, and Im sure a few other deletes that make it easier to install. I noticed this from his OBX install pic.

Here is the pics. I have a small battery so that helps. As for the windshield washer fluid, I can run without it temporarily, I will just have to find a way to modify the stocker, or find a smaller one from another car and rig the shit out of it =P
Heater core I need to keep in, like I said I will just have to get a bigger hose or find a connector and use the ones of my fiances old talon to rig them so they are extra long to go around things. Also from Marks pics, it seems like mine may be a bit bigger, hard to tell through pics though.
Anyways here we are. Here is the throttle cable box. You can see that I moved it down. (the two bolt hole above it are where it was originally mounted) Also I switched the side the throttle cable was one, had to use a dremel to cut a whole out, but seems to work fine at the moment. If you look close enough you can see where I originally tried to mount it from the bottom but that didn't work.
![]()
Here is the other side you can see how impossible it would have been with a windshield wiper reservoir. You also can see the length of the heater hoses. I have the one connected.
![]()
Here is another view of the throttle cable mounted to the manifold. You can also see I had to split the loom to get the map/break booster sensor separated from the rest of the wire pack.
![]()
So this is where I am, hopefully things start to go smoother. Now if only I can find my electrical tape.
I'll try to update in an hour or so, feel free to txt/call me for more info etc. Numbers on the Rolodex if you dont have it.

Almost done! Everything hooked up except one heater hose and intake. I am fairly certain I will have to shave down battery bracket to get an intake to fit

Didnt you say you had a V2 you were going to try to stuff in there?
|
134506, RE: AMM Intake Manifold Install Posted by Fotowntalon, Jul-02-11 02:47 PM
Yes, actually have the SRI in there atm, but only because I had to cut a port off the V2 and need to JB weld it, then will throw that on, already checked and it will fit.
... wtf... about 3 pictures I took did not save >< oh well big update incoming soon ok maybe they are on there, buggy ass PC problems

So sadly for my DD Intake manifold install, as you all know I have run into many problems, that could of been avoided if it wasn't my DD. But do to much quick thinking and shotty work I solved most my problems!!! The windshield wiper reservoir still not solved, but I will save that for another day.
As shown above I had to relocate the throttle cable. Also learned I had to modify the cover over the bracket to accept the new cable location
![]()
As shown before I was having problem with heater hose length. I went into the shop and got an adapter and some hose clamps, than went to my part out car and stole the heater hoses off. Here is what I rigged up
![]()
![]()
After getting the one hose perfect, I found the other one had decent length once moved around more, so took MB's advice and tied it away from contact with the manifold
![]()
With most my problems solved I wanted it running so moved to the point of putting on the intake. Even though I have a tiny battery, the damn holder was providing much fitment problems, drove back to work, borrowed the saw and took care of my problem
![]()
Now I am having some slight problems getting things 100% because of this damn cable? whats it to and any ideas what to do about it? I have everything in place, but like I said would be more happy if I had the room this black cable blocked
![]()
But I know what you really want to hear, and here it is! (in the build thread)

Your last picture. Are you talking about black cable with electrical tape from your ecu.
Looks like you could put it in between the blue loom and rubber hose to the transmission and zip tie the black cable(has electrical tape) to the blue loom have/underneath.
Nice build thread. Whats the retail on the intake manifold, looks like it was a stock intake and someone cut top half kept stock runners, and nicely tig'd sheetmetal to it.

$450 was the price. Aso for the black cable, its is the one that goes down to a bracket holder thingy connecter to the transmission. Also youtube video in the actual build thread.

450 wow, thats great price. Thought is was a little over grand for that custom intake.
Okay, I see the hose what you're talking about.
Looks a 90* degree AN fitting with either a stainless hose or oe hose. Might work and zip tie to the lower loom, but it might still hit something?

That's the hose for your clutch slave cylinder. Fluid runs through it.

If you look at my link I posted on this thread (http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=60&topic_id=28757&mesg_id=28757&page=&topic_page=2), you can see that I do have both heater hoses intact (I also had them intact for the turbo build, which had a larger AMM intake on it) . As for the battery (you can see from the pics in that thread), I was able to use the AEM intake with my 1/2 size battery that I already had installed. But I didn't like the diamater size of the AEM so I relocated the battery to where the old intake box was. I wish I still had pics for this (its such a simple relocation. No cutting or splicing involved and it opens up the whole area).
You can see where the now tiny battery is in this pic;
![]()
Wait I just found a pic with the 1/2 sized that I moved down first;

Not hating or trying to contradict anybody here, just pointing stuff out for others to know.

I just remember seeing a hose going from the t stat housing to the lower coolant line, bypassing the heater hoses.
I like that battery reloation. I dont want to run one to the trunk. I might try that and see if my intake still fits. Where did you get a half size battery? Junkyard? Maybe PM me a part number for autozone perhaps?

not sure about MB's but mine is an odessy pc680, and i love it

Honestly just a reroute of battery lines, no cutting involved. The battery number was "free from my buddy Darin who had this battery from a stock Honda", lol. I believe it was one of the Civic's. But you can simply walk into Sears and find a battery on their shelf that is the correct size and post configuration.
Obviously, any of the small race batteries will work.

Finally took her out today, with the v2 installed (yay!). First thing I noticed is I need to take more pressure off the throttle cable still, my gas pedal felt very heavy (not noticeable at higher rpms but very noticeable for city driving and start/go).
Also is it normal to have smoke periodically come out of the breathers on the valve cover? Did notice that, had me a little worried because I've normally ran with the pcv and etc. hooked up.

Yes, if you have no hoses connected up to them. They are relieving crankcase pressures.

Keep an eye out for puddles or oil seal wetting without those hooked up. While I had the OBX on I had the small VC vent capped and the big one run to a catch can. Im fairly certain my crank seal is toast now.

I drew this picture over the course of several hours to illustrate my plan to rehook back up my windshield wiper fluid
![]() As you can very clearly see. I am going to hack off a ton off the right hand side, then cut off the top of the tube where the cap is and cut a whole one the right hand upper area and glue that there.
I can understand if this technical speak jargon is a little hard to explain, but what I need help with is what to seal up the left handed side of the plastic reservoir with.

134553, RE: AMM Intake Manifold Install Posted by PsychO, Jul-07-11 02:53 PM
Why can't you relocate the bottle somewhere else?
|
134555, RE: AMM Intake Manifold Install Posted by Fotowntalon, Jul-07-11 06:19 PM
the bottle is really big and not sure where else I would relocate it to, plus that would mean extending the wires and fluid hoses, all which sounds extremely fun but at the end of the day i like the stock location and think this will be the easiest route.
|
134556, RE: AMM Intake Manifold Install Posted by iamnotwhoiam, Jul-07-11 10:39 PM
Would it be possible to try and "create" a new fluid reservoir that is smaller and could be used elsewhere... I have been recently thinking of doing something like this. perhaps even look at other designs in other cars... maybe a long skinny tube at the top to a larger section lower down.
|
134557, RE: AMM Intake Manifold Install Posted by Fotowntalon, Jul-07-11 11:45 PM
As long as you have a hole in the bottom for the pump then yes, I don't see why it wont work. I know my 5s drawing is rather shitty, but that's somewhat what it will work/look like, kinda skinny at the top , then fat at the bottom. only using stock location.

I removed mine years ago and never bothered putting it back in. That's always an option, just ditching it.

Yeah, me too.
Do you have to have it on?

134560, RE: AMM Intake Manifold Install Posted by Fotowntalon, Jul-08-11 08:59 AM
not that big of a deal for the summer, but really would like to have it for the winter. At the end of the day its something more convenient for me than anything else, not a necessity

134561, RE: AMM Intake Manifold Install Posted by DarkOne, Jul-08-11 12:16 PM
If you have a rear wiper, you have a second reservoir. Extend the wires, install the front pump on the back res, and you're good.
Or, alternately, source a GS rear reservoir and pump, and install it.

Has the thought of Fiberglass come to you yet? Its not like the Washer Fluid is hot or anything, I think you can get away with reshaping the wall of the Reservoir to you're liking.
Plus fiberglass can be pretty fun to work with, molding it anyways.
Jeff.

How expensive is fiberglass? @Dino, thats a pretty damn good idea, but by the time I read this I already cut open my reservoir, pics soon!

Sorry I wasn't able to help you out more. I installed my intake on my fun car that wasn't using my heater core, I didn't care about the washer resevoir and I also removed my cruise control unit so the throttle cable was WAY more adjustable. I also have the shorter turbo mani that allows more clearance for the TB inlet.
For what it's worth, his turbo intake took me from full spool at 4k, all the way down to 2800 on the tach. It's a bite to the pocket but very worth the investment.
