#7, "Where are the transmission drain/fill plugs?!?!? (96 5sp RS)"

Oh my god.

I've spent the last 45 minutes trying to make THIS illustration/guide make sense.... Too goddamn vague!!

http://www.myzero.com/drivetrain/tranny.html

Had to jack the car up to get under there, (drivers side is jacked up at the moment)... and I can't find EITHER plug!!

This is a 96 RS, 5speed. I got the OE fluid from satan. I've changed the engine oil at least half a dozen times, so I figured this wouldn't pose too much of a challenge. I was wrong!!

Can someone point me in the right direction? I need to find the drain/filler plugs. I have a feeling that this fluid has not been changed in a really long time, and I'd like to do some preventative maintenance so to speak... (without paying a shop to do it) .. hepp!!

Should I cut my losses and get it done??

Already posted it on DSMTalk.. uhh... Needless to say... they didn't help. LoL. And... I just posted it in "general" but... i think this section is probably more appropriate..

na.. its surprisingly clean under there. but.. in the OTHER thread I made here someone says there IS no "drain plug" on these transmissions... (*but says nothing of what I should actually do to change the fluid )

I'm about ten minutes away from just giving up and having a place do it for me... BAH.

here I am to the rescue - ez911.

just did this last week.

Drain plug - almost in the center of the car - very close to the center member, on the driver side of the center member. It is facing the passenger side. It's the lowermost part of the tranny - the one bolt that doesn't look like it's holding the tranny together.

Fill plug - this is the bitch. But I found out how to do it from the top of the car (SO MUCH BETTER IMO) !!!! Take out your battery and plate that the battery sits on, unscrew and de-attach both the brake fluid reserve canister and windshield wiper fluid canister, and just slip them to the side (still attached to their respective tubing). Get on the driver side of the engine bay, and you have a good view of the tranny now. There is a rubber plug coming out of the tranny, facing you. Pull that bitch out by twisting as you pull (it's not screwed in and it's not threaded). Use a tube to fill in the tranny, and it will overflow and leak out - that's when you know you're at the correct level.

well... it ended up working out pretty well... but I wish I hadn't bothered pulling all that shit out of the engine bay; it was unnecessary!!

I just took off the driver side wheel... and the hole/plug are just as accessible if not MORE accessible than from top-down..

I'm gonna throw together a guide with lots of pics so noone has to struggle through this like I did.. lol

I tried going in from the wheel well, and I had one hell of a time going through that way. whatever works best for you!

Oooooohh yeah make no mistake... it was definitely difficult going in from the wheel well... spilled a LOT of oil all over driveway despite my best efforts.. (only because my funnel-> tube connection was loose... lol)

is you get some break parts cleaner and spray off your tranny, right under the passanger side axle, it should say oil drain on the tranny. if you get the mopar tranny fluid you can put a hose on the spout/cap on the bottle, stick the other end of the hose in the tranny fill hole and squeeze it in.
