#845, "Another Drifter! Hey HadesOmega just wondering..."

How fast do you enter the turn before you pull the brake? I've been into drifting since I was 16 in my CR-X. I beat the hell out of that car.

I tried drifting in my eclipse in the rain once and pulled a full 90 and back to straight in a few seconds barely missed a boulder! Scared the hell out of me and I haven't tried (at least in the dry/non-snow conditions) since then.

Anyone else a drifter or is everyone just a straight up street racer?

i think it depends on the turn, the speed that your goin into it, the actual spot that u yank the funnEbrake, and your knowledge of the terrain/course...

haha cool. Nah I'm the only once cept for Thunderous Talon I suppose. It depends on what kinda turn it is at buttonwillow I drifter turn 2 at about 30-40 MPH I think. I've been in an 86 that was drifting at like 80 O_O

I usually practice drifting during autox though cuz drifting out on the streets can get costly if you know what I mean.

Cool a crx eh, I heard those are pretty good FF drift cars. Always wanted to drift one of those, EG6 civic, and Integra R.

I'm trying to use left foot braking to lighten the rear and use the ebrake to fine tune the drift, but I'm running into problems. I guess I'm scared to drift at high RPM, all that darn power is intimidating.

oh yeah one good thing about FF cars is that you can pull the brake will still applying gas.

Do you have any special suspesion set-up for drifting?

The CR-X was fun to drift because it's so light and their is so much weight over the front wheels. I go to drift my eclipse and the thing responds compleatly differantly (duh ) but I'll get back to it when I find a safer place to do it.

I'm pulling more weight out of the back of the car to push my weight ratio forward. It should help dragging and drifting.

For now I need shocks because my head is hurtin

Yeah I have some special suspension setup to get me all the oversteer that a drifter demands haha that sound so korny. I have KYB AGX adjustable shox. What I do is set the front to the lowest setting and the rear to the highest setting. This setup makes the weight trasnfer to the front very quickly lightening the back and making it over steer. I'm pretty good at ebrake drifting but now my next trick to master is left foot braking drifting like I mentioned above I can make the car drift without using the ebrake which is a pretty cool. I plan on getting a fatter rear sway bar in the future so that way I can fine tune the shock setup, even with the setup I'm using right now I can still get mega understeer. oh yeah haha I use some Dunlop Qualifiers that are 205/40/16s. haha yup you heard right 40 series, so the tire and wheel look like 14s! They give like really poor traction so I stuck em on the rear and it's drift o rama. I'm planning to get some steel 14inchers from the junkyard sometime and use those instead

WHat Japanese FF Drifters do in japan is basically do what I did with the crappy rear tires and they toe out the rear suspension. Haha I don't want crappy alignment and I don't have money to get alignment done all the time so I just use the regular toe settings. Haha you should see some of those FF drift cars they're hella battled out. Slide Squad dave used to have an old flat black EF-9 civic but now he has an 86. I have this one option video where this guy drifts his EF-9 haha it's pretty cool he just swing that thing around a corner and it drifts and it looks good too.

Haha I tried the setting in GT3 and they work too!

Hmm I guess what really got me into drifting was Initial D. I used to drift in GT1 but I realized that drifting was more flashy than fast, but Initial D showed me that it could be fast. Drifting is fast when you drift with minimal countersteer and know what turns drifting will be faster and gripping will be faster. Then I see these movies online of crazy japanese drifters busting these long as drifts. Then when I got the eclipse I used to do these little ebrake tricks and stuff, then I graduated to ebrake drifting, and now left foot brake drifts. Haha oh yeah I got the RS before I watched Initial D so that's why I'm driftin and FF car now hehe. But after I watched the EG6 battle in Initial D I was like wow an FF car can really drift. And till this day I'm on a mission to show an FF car can drift. Haha I ran into a problem though everyone thinks I have an AWD eclipse! haha one guy at the drift event asks me "He nice sliding AWD? I'm like nope Front" and he all cool. A lot of people at the autoxes think I'm AWD also. I guess it could be a compliment but making a FF car bust nice drifts like the FR cars is a bigger accomplishment. I was the only FF car drifting that day also

Oh yeah haha to make sure people don't think I'm a GSX I made some cutomized mangnets that say FF-Drifter and FWDrifter on it. Then people will know bwahaha. I wish people would get a clue though it's an ugly eclipse with no wing and a RS sticker in the back.

Dave didn't help me at all dude! I talked to him about drifting my eclipse and he is like " drifting an eclipse, that not really going to happen" Im like "what?!?" He told me to get a used 240. I tried e-mailing him back and he never responded.

I don't care if anything our cars are mean drifters because we have so much weight over the front wheels.

There is nothing wrong with drifting a FF. I watched this one option video and was like "Is that possible?" The things this guy was doing were defying the laws of physics!

I first got into it when my friend Marek from work started talking about it and telling me about dave. Then I read the article in Super Street.

I was hooked. I figured if my car can't be a racer it can always pull some mad DRIFT!! I just need to practice more.

Hades were you from? I'm in Chi-town and there is no one who know how to drift except for Mark in his civic coupe.

I live in San Jose, California.

Recognize this:

Oh my haha I've been calling it an EF-9 it's really a EF-2. I guess I was thinking of EK-9

Yeah I found this magazine informative but the way they explain FF drifting makes it too difficult. All I do is yank the parking brake and step on the gas.

Yeah FF drifting is cool but its slow. A lot of drifters call us wrong wheel drive and ass-draggers. That's probably cuz the majority of them are FR, I feel like I'm the only FF drifter in my area. I heard some other peeps drift their FFs, I remember when drift club had a forum there was a dude in the bay area that drifted his CRX.

The only ones who try drifting around here are morons from school. Think their all big and bad because they got the back tires to screech for a second. I'd like to see them try and make a complete turn!

Cool thing about drifting is you don't need crazy power to do it! this way I can't look like a dumb ass

Bummer, I don't know when I'd ever be in Cali any time soon. I'd like to see you do some drifts. Would you happen to have any videos?

hey guys I'm a fellow drifter. I just went to this forum today and saw the word drifter and said hell yeah I'll talk to these dudes! For awhile their I was scared nobody else likes drifting in the fwd 2gnt. I'm about to post some of my drifting pics and mabye a video or two on my site. right now all I've got is that pic in my sig that wont show up by itself( you have to click the link ) Right now my fun-brake is all kinds of worn out. My friend are scared to ride with me and now I have to do it alot more dangerous by going into the turn fast in a high gear and all of sudden turn the wheel twords the curve and accelerate, downshift and sraighten it back up. come to think of it my drums are probobly out of round by now...oh well.

Nice picture, I've never tried rally before haha cept for a big dirt lot. Hehe I copied it and pasted it into an explorer window and it showed it. If you wanna post a pick just type in the link to it and the file name. Cool 4 drifters on the board now.

Haha if you wanna see pictures of me drifting I got something better go to the pits and looks for HadesOmega Trayin Part IV and dl the WMV file I posted.

better yet here the link
http://home.earthlink.net/~hadesomega0/HOtrayinIV.wmv

Yeah hehe drifting doesn't require a lot of power I did it a lot when I was still NA and I still had drum brakes. Haha until I destroyed my drum brakes. You can try adjust your ebrake line by taking off the cup/change holder and letting off on the parking brake. Then tighten that brass nut looking thing on the parking brake cable. This'll tighten the tension. Then pull up on it and it'll be tighter then just keep adjusting till you got it the way you want it. 3-5 clicks for discs and 5-7 for drums.

Looks like you can bust some high speed drifts from the way you describe it. Hehe I'm still scared to drift on mountain passes after a little incident and drifting on the street is a no no for me after the 3 legged eclipse accident. But at the Speedtrial drift even I was able to bust some pretty fat drifts at high speed. Race tracks are sooooo cool!

Haha we should get our own drifter forum Then I can post setups and techniques hehe

cool well for drifting you might wanna get new wheels I suppose. That 70 series 14s make drifting interesting. But I did do some drifting when I had my 14s so not too sure there hehe. Haha you can get a fat rear sway bar kit then you'll be oversteering all over the place! Get a cold air intake and exhuast and your set for power. Drifting doesn't take much power. (yeah right this is coming from a guy with a stage 2 turbo kit). Get shox and springs dude your car will be that much more funner to drive hehe. If you get adjustable shox like mine you can tune it for more or less oversteer too!

Heh for drifting I recommend some ok tires. I have some super grippy tires and it hella bogs the engine down trying to makes those spin. Something around 300treadwear A rated traction will do. I used to have some Firestone Firehawks and those were great for drifting. Not super grip but they made drifting pretty easy.

Maybe I should change my mind about those shocks! Before they blew I was able to kick out the back end just by taking a corner then "yanking" the wheel kicking out the back wheels.

I can't believe its snowing outside right now! I think I'm going to have some fun before it all melts!

Have you guys drifted in snow yet? It's easier in snow but its harder to recover unlike in the dry.

Oh, and longer tread life for the tires

Rally huh?! I would like to be like the rally guys I see on speedvision but thats not gunna happen. too much $ required.

yeah,
I love to rally. those guys on speedvision are awesome because they race on a course they have never driven before. They just rely on the pace notes from their navigator. I'll go out to some industrial parking lots and do some dry drifting but I love rallying on some of the dirt roads we have around here. My friends won't ride with me in the rain anymore, they just get to scared.}> by the way anybody know a place that will do image hosting? Also I , think I'm gonna take out a loan for a stage 5 any objections? what about that super 25g I've been hearing about? later.

haha sure if you want the power like I said you don't need a lotta power to drift.

Yeah I drift in rainy parking lots to get that slip I demand as a drifter haha! (sounds sooo corny) and to minimized tire damage, damn summer is coming up back to just drifting in the dry. Haha dirt drifting is fun hella gets your car dirty. I have a movie of me doing it in a dirt lot but like one or 2 ebrake turn then we had to go it's fun playing in the dirt and rain haha...

Yeah in my opinion rally is probably the hardest racing in on the face of the planet. You literally driving blind. The cars take more punishment and it looks exhuasting. Too bad rally is popular everwhere buy here

You know what I might go to a drift event in April. Haha I'm trying to buy some 14 inch rims b4 then so i can tear those suckas up. I realize 14 inch tire are way cheapr than 16 in tires. Blown 2 tires already not looking forward to destroying more 16 inch tires. EXPENSIVE O_o I'll show those FR bastards how FF drift is done!

ACK! Merlin! i could kill you i just talked to you last nite and you didnt tell me we had larger small group of drifters. damn... wow... i am glad to see we've got more company...

Merlin kinda knows my story. i went from driving an old muscle car(70 Chevelle 454 SS). Straight line is only fun for so long, my dad disowned me when i said that. i got this car and the handling was so far superior to that 3,500+lb tank i had before. Altho i realize FFWD isnt the drifters choice its still all the fun... I also still got that mag(damn bro yours is in mint condintion) above which really pushed me deeper into doing it. i have to agree. when i read that i feel like i am doing it all wrong if i go by the magazine LoL....

I've had the chance to take my car on to dirt roads that was before i was dropped. however i did snap my solid motor mount, but i had a blast. I am also a huge fan of rallying. i recently picked up "Worlds Greatest Rally Car" dvd. good dvd, commentator was quite boring... shows alot of older rally cars namely ford and the 1600. damn that was some car... it goes over the 30+years rallyings been around.. not bad but not worth the money.

anyways back to topic... I've been drifting for a little over a 2 and a half years now. i love the fact that they repave the roads in my town every two yrs keeps em from being all distorted. I've conquered ebrake drifting just about. Left foot braking i am playing with from time to time. it just gets a little tricky remembering everything. i wanna push the clutch all while braking and punching the gas... LoL. I am getting better. We have a few large parking lots around me that i hope to video tape some drifting in when i get back from provo in a few months. Hopefully i'll get some drifting done out in provo 28sq mile island, my boys neighbors got an evo V which should make for some good times...

As far as my setup... H&R Race Springs Stage 3 2in drop in the front and 1.75 in the rear. Tokico Illumina 5way adj struts. STB. Hurricane GS fixed up my lower front tie bar to make it not so low as well as a rear tie bar. i am in desperate need of swaybars. i have no rear as i am stuck w/ the esi being naked there. and drums NEED to go. but none the less i can get that rear end out very nicely with the h&r springs being so stiff

haha yeah I remember mentioning you up there somewhere talon haha. Sorry i forgot to tell you Haha left foot brake and push the clutch in at the same time? Does that require the growth of another foot? Just sounded that way to me. Cool an EVO5.

Do you have pix of that tie bar? I really wanna straighten mine out I just got smaller filter so it doesn't stick out so much with the oil cooler adapter and now the last thing thats sticking out the bottom is the tie bar. did you just cut the thing off and straigten it then chop some of the ends off then weld it back on? You think a muffler shop could do it? I would guess you'd need a press machine.

Oh yeah here are some more movies I've got:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292222189

it's crappy image station account so like the movies at the end don't work for some stupid reason. One is HadesOmega trayin part II I believe and I got a movie of me during a fun run doing some fat drifting.

actually hurricane gs completely made a new front lower tie bar. he should start selling them soon. he still has mine i've been hella lazy to drive out to him. he's about an hour away or so. just a really long boring hour drive.... i may go out there next week cause imma have nothing to do all that week till i leave for provo on friday. i'll take pics before we put it on my car and i leave... i really miss having that bar... i just hope i am still not too low to have it... i'd hella pissed. cause it did make a world of a difference.

heh well the "DRIFTERS" on SRO sure took offense to it. Haha don't go there for drifting advice, talk about haterz. Go for it make sure it a nice big lot, be prepared to stall a couple time and spin out hehe. I'm sure you'll do pretty good though since you have drifting experience.

Damn, I have to get new shocks! I pulled the e-brake in my friends lot and all I got was wheel hop!

Any suggestions on what kind of shocks I should get?

I was thinking AGX KYG's. What do you guys think?

Hades uses AGX and he likes em from what i remember talking about to him.... I am on Tokico illuminas and i absolutely love them... The adjustability is ez and you can very much tell the difference's between the settings.... plus long strut travel for more excessive drops.

Yeah I like the AGXs. I guess if your not gonna drop that low get the AGXs if you gonna get slammed get the illuminas. or you can get a combination like iluminas in the front and AGX in the rear. I believe its the front one that was too big, who knows they might have caught on by now.

When I replaced my shox I knew my old ones were blown because they would always makes these noises and now the noises are gone since I installed the shox.

Try to find a junkyard with a 2G in it, hehe and pick that thing dry if it's a GS and up. That's what I did got rear discs and swaybars from it.

Wheel hop? like from tires spinning or your lifting the wheel?

I don't get it...I pulled into the lot at a moderate speed and pulled the e-brake, It sure as hell sounded like wheel hop from rear wheels!

Maybe when It pulled sideways and the body leaning must have pulled the wheel up, I don't know.

I blew out my rear AGX shocks and I need new ones. I'm torn between the KYBS and the Tokico.

My car is slammed most of the time during the summer. I want my car to be lowered more for performance rather than for looks. I used to have it so low I couldn't do anything without scrapping.

I just got my Sprint Camber kit. Now I have to figure out what kind of shocks to get and what to set my camber to in the front.

Do you guys set the rear to be firm and the front soft? Need drift help Bro's!

P.S. I'm trying to get my friend with a GS-X to buy new sway bars so I could buy his }> . You guys want a GS sway bar? I might have it poweder coated too.

gsx swaybar fits ours? hmmmmmmmmmm......interesting. definately a mod to think about, but man I run a totally stock car so I have no idea of a susp. setup.

wheelhop, hades.....I don't know why it is but on the video I'm doing an e-brake slide and that back wheel is traveling a good 4-6 inches up and down.

How much are the Illuminas? I should be getting my tax return soon and I need to know how much I'll be spending because I need a new exhaust too.

I love technology! set shocks/ turn on switch switch }> and I'm set for nightime hunting, a few clicks of the shocks and turn switch off and I'm going sideways

I Life is goood!

hmm wheel hop in the rear that's a new one on me. Maybe getting a sway bar is a good idea. I have TSi sway bars that I aquired from a junkyard. But even b4 I had the sway bars I never had wheel hop. Could be your tires also.

i started drifting a few weeks ago on an on ramp to I-465 in indianapolis. all i did was keep the gas pedal down and turned hard. i didnt have my suspension then though. it was stock. now that i have my eibach sportlines on, i dont think i can do it anymore. i havent tried yet. it happened by accident. quite easy really.
