#5116, "finally back to the track, new best MPH (91.18) with a slower 1/4 mile"
I was able to get back to the drag strip this past Friday. It was about 57 degrees F at the start of the night, and it went down to about 38F near the end of the night.
I have a new set of tires, nitto 555R drag radials, the 205/55R14s (I put them on some steel stock wheels, not pretty but light) This setup is MUCH lighter than the 225/50R16s I tried once before (I borrowed them for one run) and these new tires did not slow the car at all like the larger ones.
I was not getting good launches for these tires, part of it was probably cold temperatures and part defenitely was due to me being out of practice, and part due to not knowing how to launch on these tires.
But, when it got colder it seems I was still able to get some traction while any other FWD car was spinning like crazy. So,I managed on the last run, with a 15.5 1/4 mile, to get a new best trap speed of 91.18 mph.
I still don't know why I got the good trap speed, but I'll take a new best anythng at this point. If the weather is good I will try again this friday.
