#488, "RE: Has anyone redlined 5th gear???" In response to In response to 20
with stock diameter tires you'd top out at about 162mph, but if you use larger diameter tires, you lenghten the gear ratio and make the final drive ratio numerically smaller (from 3.94 to 1 to let's say 3.65 to 1). That would allow you to go at a higher top speed for the same engine RPM (IF you have the power to do it!)
speedos are off at 100+ mph because for our cars, they don't have to be accurate at that speed, we're not supposed to go that fast so it will error on the high side. would would want your speedo (for safety reasons ) to read 135 when your're going 150, or 165 when you're going 150? better to over-estimate speed so there is less chance to kill yourself, but I think once you're at 100, anything faster isn't going to make a difference, a crash at any of those speeds (unless you're ina BMW 5 or 7 series, or a mercedes on the autobahn) will turn your car into a metal accordian
