So I'm new to the 420a platform, but this site has been excellent for research. Lots of plans for mine, but I have to restore some things on it first. The wiring at the battery looks like someone had no clue what they were doing. The interior is a wreck (black and tan, the tan has seen way better days).

I've been to the junkyard, and I ripped an entire grey interior out of a 95 Eclipse. It needs a little work, but will look way better than the tan (I mean, the tan driver's seat says "blond e" on the headrest.

It did come with some nice 17" black wheels. They need a good paint job. I plan on doing that next week. I'll take pics and post about that project. I also need to get a few more parts in from Amazon for my stereo system. I'm huge into music and the stock speakers leave a little to be desired. I plan on putting the subs where the rear seats currently reside. I'm hoping that the amps will be comfortable there, too, and I'll basically have a full trunk all the way to the front seats. We'll see.

Here is the stereo system I am installing:

DEI 050380 Boom Mat 6"x9" Oval Speaker Baffle - Pack of 2
DEI 050330 Boom Mat 6.5" Round Speaker Baffle - Pack of 2

I am going to the junkyard Saturday. We have an LKQ Pick-Your-Part, which is where I got the interior. I am planning on getting the following, but after even more research I may find out there are better options:
2.4 short block
Pistons and Rods / Crankshaft / Oil Pump / Water Pump from an SRT4 if I can find one.
420a head
3g rear suspension
rear disc brake conversion parts

Also some parts for an eventual turbo kit:
93-99 Jeep 4.0 V6 Throttle Body
Nissan 240sx - Garrett GT28r ball bearing turbo, or something else that might be laying around out there, plus an intercooler and any other turbo kit parts I might find.

This build will probably take a couple of years. I realize I will need several supporting parts, but probably not ones that I will find in a junkyard. I'd like to eventually make 700-800 HP, but I haven't yet found where we can get a crankshaft (or a tranny, for that matter) that will support that much power. So I will just stay around 300-400 HP and go to the dark side (2g GSX) to build a 9-sec car and use my 2gnt as my fun daily driver.

I'll get my blog up and running so I can post pics and details without making my posts here unduly long.

Welcome.

I see you're local to me. LKQ doesn't have any skittles, right now. I was out there a couple of days ago trying to find a Galant or a 2.4 3G to pull the crank from, but no dice.

Good luck with your build, keep us updated.

Have you been to Oscar's? It's just down 41 from lkq. They have a couple 2.4s on CL. I may have to go there then, but I'm not in a rush on this. The parts will come up when I need them .

Well, after two days at the junkyard, I finally have it in the garage

It's a 2.4 block out of a 2005 Dodge Stratus, and the head from a '97 Eclipse. Took my dad and me about six hours both days to get it out (and a random guy to come by and tell us to unbolt the dang flywheel )

I also pulled the alternator, A/C compressor, and power steering pump from the Stratus. Meant to grab the starter out of the Eclipse, but ran out of time. Everything was half price today, so it was $274.43 for all of it. Not too bad I guess, as long as it's going to work .

Everything is half price tomorrow as well, so I need to make sure to make a really good list. I guess now is the time to get the rear suspension out of the 3g.

Here are some pics of what this baby will eventually go in. I'm sure you all can see why the engine isn't the #1 priority atm.

No clue what kind of rims these are, but they definitely need painted. I got the stuff to do it off of Amazon, so I will be posting a little write-up of how that goes. That stuff gets here Tuesday:

I'll be leaving the black, but I need to get that garbage off of it. Hopefully the heat gun will take care of it. The black is in great shape from what I can see (besides the airbag cover, so I'll be getting one from the junkyard):

Why would you rice the pedals? Those are also on the list (the other two are in the glove compartment):

Uhhh, yeah

Good thing they added an intake, and broke the timing belt cover

Check out the awesome wiring. I'll be working on that too:

I didn't take a pic of it, but the starter wires are also really loose. Since it's part of the loom with the ground wire that I will be replacing (if I can find one), I'll fix that when I put the new (old) wiring in.
