Hey guys. I just want to thank those of you who helped but didn't know it. I think you guys may need to upgrade the search button on here cause I used the crap out of it for the last 2 years and it may have some wear on it. I bought a 99' Eclipse about 2 years ago with a broken timing belt. Being the "mechanic" that I am I thought this would be the perfect car to move from V8's to imports. I love working on cars and I've always wanted to see how much work it would take on a 4 banger to spank a V8.

Well I fixed the car. Wanted to go turbo ever since. About 4 months ago I ended up hydrolocking my motor. Thats what I get for running CAI. Anyway, this gave me the opportunity to go in and build it for boost. Again, I have used the search button on here almost every day for the last two years trying to figure out just exactly what it takes to run turbo safely on a 420a.

So after punching it out .040, Wiseco pistons @ 8.8:1, wieghed and balanced stock rods (because I read that they are good up to 300HP and all I'm looking to do is 250HP), polished stock crank, Clevite bearings, MLS head gasket, stock polished cams, PT rockers, Gates performance timing belt and pulleys, UDP, and a little fresh motor paint, I am now breaking in a new motor that I will boost in about 1 to 2 months.

I plan on going ahead and installing some of the things that I'm going to need such as a Walbro 255HP fuel pump, FCD, and FMIC. I will wait until I'm ready to turbo to put in the FMU (Vortech 12:1), FMIC piping, turbo timer, and all the other stuff like the turbo. HAHA. If my budget allows, then I will grab MS and then of course the FMU will change. I have already installed the gauges which are all Auto Meter.(oil, boost, EGT, WB A/F guage)

Anyway, I just want to say thanks to all of you who helped out. I know what I know now because of you guys. I will post some picks just as soon as I figure out how. HAHA!

I didnt want to be that person that everyone told to use the search button. I knew that if I became a member, I would end up asking some stupid question befor I searched.

Welcome! How about some pictures? Also, why are you running an EGT and WB02? Widebands basically replaced the need for an EGT.

I dont think they actually replace the need for one. The WB02 goes downstream and the EGT probe is closer to the head. While EGTs are affected by air / fuel ratio, they are also affected by sensor placement, spark timing, and several other variables that have minimal effect on the reading of a wideband oxygen sensor. With the EGT probe lets say after the turbo, cause I dont want it breaking off and going through it, I can get a more accurate reading on the temp it self. I personaly want to monitor then seperately so I can see whats going on. Im not saying that you are wrong. Yes you know if your running lean then its hot but with only using a WB, you dont know exactly how hot it is.

motor looks like it's coming along pretty good dude! And I second autometer gauges. I'm running 3 myself (fuel pressure, oil pressure, and boost vac) and then 2 AEM digitals (WB02 and volts. I like to keep an eye one whats going on haha.

So any thought into which direction your gonna take with putting a boost setup together?

Thanks man. I've got about 200 miles on it so far. when I hit 2000, I will put the turbo on.

As far as the turbo setup, I have no idea. I mean I know what I want to do, I just dont know exactly what I need to do. I know I need to do just a little bit more searching as far as FMIC and a turbo. I just want to make sure that I get the right FMIC that I dont have to over boost to be able to get the boost I want. I have done alot of research on Ebay FMIC's and there are some good and some bad. I know when I say Ebay, everyone gets their assumtion of me. My motto is if I can get something that works as well as name brand stuff for a cheaper price, then that makes sence to me. I have read where some people are using them with no problems. As far as the turbo, I guess I'm in the same boat. I cant afford $1000 on a Turbonetics or $800 on a Garrett. I guess I've been looking at Godspeed Turbo. 50 trim, 50.16 / 76.84 turbine wheel diameter: 54.06 / 65.20 exhaust trim: .57ar. I think that is at least the size that I need with stock injectors. Obviously I am upgrading the fuel system with a Walbro 255HP fuel pump, a Vortech FMU, and a FCD. Thinking of the SFMU but I have heard of some small headaches with the initial setup, but if it will keep from dumping fuel at idle, then it's probibly worth it. I just dont want to get the wrong thing. If I do buy Ebay, I still want to at least get the specs right.

I hear ya man. I've heard of alot of people running EBAY intercooler cores and them lasting under the boost. And if your goal is to hit around 250-300 hp, then why not try to pick up an MHI 16g? Those can be picked up cheap if you find them.

Well for one I dont want to have to make my own manifold. As far as I know you cant buy, or at least I haven't found a manifold with a TD05 flange for a 420a as cheap as the T3/T4. I think that just getting a T3/T4 turbo and manifold will do me just fine. As far as HP, I'm looking to get anywhere from 200 to 250. I dont want to push my rods to the max.
