#98886, "Need help turboing my 2gnt"

Before I go any further i've searched and i've came up with the basic information I need, but I can't find the exact answers i'm looking for. I'm going to be Turboing my DSM with a 13b Turbo (slightly smaller than the 14b) off of an automatic, AWD first gen. For the manifold i'm going to use GSGoinFast's design from his guide and have a freind who's good at welding and has a welder make it. He also said he'd help me make some kind of down pipe and the intercooler pipes. I plan on using stock injectors and a 2nd gen stock sidemount intercooler. My question is what else do I need if I plan on running 7psi of boost? I'm still new to turbo's and boost and all that fun stuff.

You will need a fcd if you are 96+, better fuel pump, kind of fuel management.

For sure... bov, at least egt gauge and a/f monitoring device.

Honestly, if you're going the custom route, then keep following GSGOinFast's write-up

You have turbo, your gonna have manifold, dp and intercooler piping made, and you are going to use a 2g smic.

Now you'll need a BOV and your intercooler piping will need to be flanged for it, a Fuel Cut Defender (FCD) or Missing Link, gauges and a fuel setup

The first two are fairly simple and cheap. If you want a good cheap BOV check out ebay and tuners and try and find a stock 1g BOV that's uncrushed. You don't need a loud shiny BOV (unless you really want one)

As for the FCD, Mike, eclipse982nrRST sells them for $25 and Paul, VelocitaPaola also sells them.

Gauges, you're going to want a boost gauge, and egt gauge at a minimum. If you want to go all out, you can look into a wideband oxygen sensor such as the zeitronix. Like the others, it will require some wiring, but you can also get a boost sensor and an egt probe to hook up to it not to mention a bunch of other goodies. Pretty much it can be an all in one, but it will run you anywhere from $300 for just the wideband to $400 for wideband with display and you can easily spend $600 plus if you start getting some of the other parts. Boost sensor is $109, egt probe is $77, you get the idea.

The fuel setup is all up to you. At the minimum you need a walbro 255lph fuel pump and a 12:1 FMU. Should run you between $150-$200 for both. You can also invest in a vortech SFMU if you are planning on raising the boost in the future. An SFMU setup will run you about $300-$500. Or you can look into the hahn portfueler which you are looking at $1000k. Your final options are megasquirt which is a DIY standalone or a custom 8-injector setup which is like the portfueler but without the price.

Thanks guys. I recognize your s/n from DSM talk cs82685 and you've helped me out before. Do you know where I can find out more about the 8 injector set-up and is there a website for the Megasquirt?

8-injector setup how-to:

There are megasquirt boards, I personally know nothing about them b/c I've never bothered to look into it. There's also plenty of info on it on this site too....somewhere my money's on the advanced tuning section should be a good start for you

Once again thanks. I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible, but not so cheap that it turns out half-assed, you've been a big help.

no problem, I would recommend using a 12:1 fmu and walbro 255 for now. It's all you really need on stock injectors and a small turbo.
