Did my compression test yesterday, 200's across the board!!! I am pumped, starting to piece together my turbo kit as we speak! Should I run a test again in a few months when I plan to install the turbo??

It couldn't hurt and it will be good to see if it's in the same shape when you go to put the turbo on

Why does a compression test matter *before* a turbo goes on?

Like say my engine has 243,000 miles and 190-185-170-180 compression... does that mean I can't put a turbo on it safely?

Cause last time I checked, people were blowing ring lands, not rings, *after* they put on the turbo with an insufficient fuel system...

It's just standard procedure to see if a engine is up to par for a turbo to be slapped on it, so you don't waste time and money if you don't plan on rebuilding it.

touche. There have been several people who have run for 1.5-2+ years on the stock bottom end though and bee nperfectly happy with it.

I know it does not make a huge difference, and I am planning a rebuild. It's just nice to know the stock internals are in good shape, for now... lol

No amount of compression testing will tell you how strong your piston's ringlands are. The test will only show you when you're done breaking in new rings after a rebuild, and on the day your engine starts loping and puffing smoke from the dipstick- that you blew a piston.

If you want to spend time or money testing something before going turbo, get your injectors flow tested.

I totally agree with that. Fortunately for me, I am one of those lucky few (1.5 years so far) although my hg is leaking like it's its job, but that's due to the moron that rebuilt my head. I got the car back like that but won't bring it back to him cause he's a moron and I didn't pay any money for the job he did, thank god. I think it will just be an excuse to rebuild sooner than later.

2+ for me . i do a compression test about once a year . i always get about 205 205 210 210 .

I went over 2 years at 12-15psi on a stock bottom end before one piston finally gave in. And even then it was due to heat fatigue, not detonation.

Car was even still driveable, just had 160 compression on #3
