#98450, "Treadstone vs. Autosquare Manifolds"
Dec-05-06 05:29 AM by RyaN95i4

I've seen some of the recent posts regarding the autosquare turbo manifold, but I'm curious if anyone has any actual side-by-side comparisons between the Autosquare and Treadstone manifolds.

Obviously the design is the same, but are Treadstones claims that the competition is a cheap knock off true? Has anyone actually handled both of these manifolds off the car to compare actual weights and cast quality?

Im hanging a HX40 w/ bullseye power turbine housing off this manifold, so a large, heavy turbo -- so I do not mind paying more for the manifold less likely to crack down the road, but if the manifolds are truely identical, why spend more than I have to.

Thanks,

Technically, they're both cheap knockoffs of the STAR manifold. But whatever.

I've never seen an autosquare manifold, but if its the same design, it's probably the same casting and using the same materials. emoji

I think that, if I were installing a larger turbo like that, I would consider investing in a system to support some of the weight. You might get the less expensive product and spend the savings on some materials to have a support bracket made. I'm sure there are a couple locations on the bottom of the block where a bar could be bolted up without too much trouble. Just a thought.

X 2!
There going to say the others are cheap knock-offs for people to pick theirs. I would go star or have a good shop make you one.

From another forum:

"hey ryan i saw ur post during lunch but didnt get a chance to post...

ive had both side by side, and had my father review the castings of both...

he said just by looks, the treadstone is a pressure cast, where as the autosquare is just a sand gravity cast.. he said both serve their purposes, but the pressure "should" hold up longer pending correct sand and equipment is used...

as for weight the treadstone was heavier not by much however...

keep in mind even though the treadstones are sold out of florida, their manufactured in brazil... but on a good side note ive heard some "tuner" forums talking about brazil manufacturing a lot of turbo manifolds for a lot of platforms... my dad never heard of it, but u never know...

i went with the treadstone myself, and a tial 38mm... if the treadstone cant hold up ur turbo, idk wat im gonna do about my 35r...

the only thing i did to help myself out, with cracking, is i had the whole thing dipped and coated... im crossing my fingers to its durability myself... time will tell"

just something else to consider.

From what I've seen
Treadstone sells a much better product and should easily take your turbo weight.
Its probably made/cast by Teksid (or even Alcoa) which makes thousands of cylinder heads, automotive parts,etc... (Its probably the exact same star casting without the logo)

Autosquare stuff is all crap/cheap/low quality knockoffs with inferior materials probably made by a little boy with one arm in china.
And they are known for taking a US sold product and copying it exactly BUT their mold quality and choice of materials is horrible (which all make a HUGE difference in the end product).
