#9842, "Automatic, need low end power...what turbo kit?"

I will be going turbo in a few months. I am an automatic, and I will most likely need low end power, but would likedecent high end power also. What kit should I go for? STAR, HRC, or NER?

Yeah Ryan...you've ridden in my car plenty of times. As big as my turbo is, it's much smaller than the corresponding Garret turbos, and as complicated at a lot of turbo things go, the general rule of thumb regarding spool up time is, the smaller the turbo, the quicker the spool.

Moreover, you've ridden in my brother's car, and he has a ridiculously small T-25 and you see how quick his spools. IF you want to see a "big" STAR turbo, go see Bob's Turbo Carrado. He also has the T03/04E Garret. Remember, he has a 2.8 liter engine as well. Bigger the engine, quicker the spool, so long as the turbo size doesn't change.

Could he get a star/hrc kit and bolt a t-25 up? 5psi would be there at like 2100 rpms. I often wondered about that.

It's all about the esxhaust manifold mating with the turbo. If he could manage to have a machine shop manfucature some sort of conversion plate, he could in fact use the T-25. The problem is, that neither kit's exhaust manifold supports the T-25.

I've recently seen on Ebay though Tommyboy's exhaust manifold on sale for ~$250 that mates with the T-25. Then you could just get the fuel kit (if possible) and have at it.

im also auto, and decided on hahn, one reason being quicker spool up.

At WOT, i get positive pressure as soon as 2300-2500 rpms, and full boost by 3000. a major advantage with the slow revving auto.

You have found your spokesman for auto turbos. emoji It all of sudden makes the auto not so bad when you have torque. You should give a small review for those that are auto and interested as I know you race SCCA as well which helps with driving experience.

Jason_ESI-T: If you look at that auction for the exhaust manifold made for a t-25 you will see that the seller is some guy named "evulflea". Its not Tommyboys manifold either, it says in the add that its just an example of a tubular manifold on a 420a.

ahhh...my bad! I just briefly skimmed the ad and recognized the car. My apologies. I stand corrected.

Good luck in your auction, too!
