i have a stock eclipse gst with a problem. a while ago the bov busted in half and to make due i used a clamp to hold it together. thats when i started to notice what i thought was an air leak while accelerating. i have since replaced the bov and still this sputtering persists. so the bov is ruled out. could my turbocharger be the problem?? and if it is the turbo, does the car break down when the turbo goes out or will it still run?

it will still run. It can puff smoke, make sounds, spike etc but it wont prevent the car from running

Bad turbo won't necessarily cause a sputter. Sputter is ignition/fuel related.

A bad turbo will show signs by causing smoke(blue) and making a whiney sound. Different from that of it spooling. Another way to check the turbo is to pull the intake system off and see if you can wiggle the shaft, you don't want to be able to. and don't be too forceful.

Sounds like a possible vaccum leak. Or possibly the PCM learned the vaccum leak that occured when the BOV broke so the PCM needs to be reset in order to relearn it the proper air flow rate, becasue it has compensated for when it was leaking. Keep in mind that since it is has a MAF (mass air flow) meter it is very susceptiable to boost leaks / vaccum leaks that can cause havoc. So to sum things up look for leaks and try reseting the PCM (disconnect the negative terminal for a few minutes). Hope this helps!

man im glad its not my turbo. thanks for all the help. i was also told that i should change my fuel filter because under acceleration it may be too clogged to let enough gas go through. so i will do that, and reset the pcm by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few minutes. should i still get someone to hook it up to a computer to check for something else?

oh and when i put the 1g bov on the adaptor inlet and bov inlet..or outlet w/e they are are smaller than the stock hoses on my car. so i just tightened the clamp down until it was tight so that shouldnt leak, i guess.

one more question. i didnt have to use some sort of gasket to put between the bov and the adaptor plate did i? it screwed on pretty tight so i am assuming it did not leak air.

positive ratings for all of you! thanks
