#98003, "Improve my setup"

Hi, its now time to store the car for winter, and make a list of things to do next summer to improve my actual setup.

For now, im running :

HAHN S16G
OEM 2G SMIC
Vortech FMU 12:1
Walbro 255lph
Greddy Type-S
Stock Injectors
Stock Internals
Stock Exhaust

Right now im seeing around 6 psi. (I assume its due to the drop of ~ 2 psi from smic intercooler.)
For next summer I was thinking of a better exhaust (hrc 3" downpipe with full 3" exhaust system)

Is this will help a lot to see a difference ? I was thinking also to a 60mm TB and UDP.

After... ill check for money for bottom end rebuilt.

Oh and, since im seeing 6 psi, if I buy a boost controler and adjust boost to 8 psi... I know you guys said its ok to run 8psi but did you count the 2psi drop ? or 8psi to the boost gauge is ok ? Just to be sure!

Thanks emoji

You'll get a quicker spool and your egts will drop, definetly do it if you wanna up the boost a bit more.

yeah that's 8psi that the engine sees. But, 8psi is really pushing those stock injectors, and they may not be able to supply what you need. I do think it's doable with the s16g though. If I was you, I would run into the FS section and snatch up the accel 310s for $40, I believe Hunntyr is selling them. I paid $150 for mine as comparison, they were new though and I've seen them sell for $75-$100 used on here. Of course then you would want to get an sfmu to replace the 12:1 fmu.

+3 I thought you were gonna say 'buy my portfueler'

I'm happy with those mods, and I haven't even installed my wideband yet

Perfect, but can you feel a real difference ? SMIC VS FMIC for ~ 8psi will do a realy better job ? And for the 3" downpipe I was looking for the HRC but just read on another thread that it will not fit with A/C installed ?

From what I've read from Hahn users, upgrading to the FMIC on the S16G running only 8psi doesn't see any gains really. I actually heard it can hurt on that particular setup and increase lag quite a bit. I agree with the other guys on larger injectors and a SFMU. The 3" DP will help a lot too, especially at 8psi.

I wouldn't run a fmic for 8psi. Sorry I said that. although you would recieve a cooler intake charge, the benifits would be offset by lag and a pressure drop.

lets worry about building your engine before you worry about upgrading anything else. otherwise you will have a really cool fmic with a very blown engine.

x2. Your setup right now is fine for stock bottom end. If you're looking to upgrade your setup, getting the block built is going to be the base of things. Then look into that FMIC, larger injectors, 3" dp, WBo2, etc...

Straight from HRC's web site:

Do I need a front mount intercooler?

Unless you are ready to make over 400HP, our side mount intercoolers are optimal. We save you the additional purchase expense, longer installation time and permanent, irreversible changes a front-mount may require. You will also benefit from increased response due to the reduced intake volume a side mount intercooler presents. We have used the same intercooler design for years on our 350+ HP factory turbosystem upgrades. It works!

Yeah but I have a OEM 2G smic (the one from gs-t and gsx)... not the hrc one. I know the hrc is a better designed and has a better flow. I think I will install 3" exhaust system. (Will be used later if I built bottom) Also, Im looking for wideband o2... cant tell if im lean or rich with my narrow now ... that thing suck. On the highway if I press a LITTLE on the pedal it sees for the most time 10.0.
