#97297, "Turbonetics Wastegate???" Sep-19-06 04:06 AM by MitsuEclipseGS
Ok I have a star stage 2 kit with the turbonetics deltagate wategate that came with the kit on my car. The kit has been installed for about 2 years now and I run 4 lbs of boost.
Within the last couple days I have noticed that the wastegate sounds like it is starting to dump around 2k rpms, usually it would open up and dump around 4k rpms. I can hear it slightly dump when I barely even give it gas. I have not lost or gained any boost, but it bothers me that I can hear the wastegate dumping at such a low rpm. Is my wastegate starting to crap out or could there be something else wrong? The only thing I have done to the car in the last couple weeks was I removed the center spring front my greddy type s, but the wastegate like I said didnt start doing this until yesterday. Am I worried about nothing or is the wastegate failing? Any help would be great. Thanks -Todd

What should it be, real stiff? If thats the case is there a way to ajust it? I cant look until I get off work, but Im just trying to trouble shoot now so I have an idea when I look at it later. -Todd

I thought I read somewhere that when an external wastegate was failing, it would open too early. It could possibly be that for you. I would do as Mike says and check the center section. It should be kinda hard to depress down, like have to use 2 thumbs to push it.

Well I just drove 45 minutes home from work and it didnt do it at all. So when the car cools down Im going to pull it off and look at it. Im hoping it is only a leak or something small. -Todd

Alright I went to take the wastegate off last night and I noticed it was a little loose. So I pulled it off and tried to push in the center piece but it was really hard, so thats ok. I ended up spraying some copper headgasket spray on the flange and bolted it back up and no problem so far. Thanks for all your guys help. -Todd
