#96859, "Getting out of the "turbo game" - back to stock ...."

Some of you know me, many don't anymore I guess with the size of the board now, but a few have have PM'd me noticing my stuff for sale in the FS section and have been asking me questions .... so I figured I'd post here and kinda make my announcement. I know nobody likes to read these posts, but after 7 years of 420A ownership I'm getting out the game. Something happened to my 3rd built bottom end, which was not yet boosted, so I yanked it and put my stock spare motor back in. I have to take it apart and find out what went wrong when I get chance. The money and time just caught up with me. My turbo kit will be up for sale soon, along with tons of other parts, and the car too. I'll still be on the board though, so I'm not going away. My advice to the turbo'd 420A crowd: If you want to build yourself a turbo 420A build a second motor. Don't use your stocker. That way you always have something to fall back on. I know it costs a bit more, but I think sometimes downtime is more frustrating than how much money you've spent ... in the meantime, happy boosting! - techboy

That sucks to hear man. Its always sad to hear somebody getting out of the turbo game, especially when they have been around for a long time.

It's not what we want to hear, but I understand. Sometimes priorities change and you've got to make hard choices. I hope you'll stick around to offer your seven years of insight with the 420A & misc.

It wouldn't have been my first choice. But sometimes you have to draw the line at how far you are willing to go. emoji

Thats a bummer, man emoji
I had went through a something similar, I was going through a divorce.

I had a kickass Dime3 blackjack guitar, yes a Dime bag Darrel guitar.
black like your car. Spent over 1000, like a rebuilt. But, I had to sell it to cover for bills an such. I still play my other two but that was my baby. See, my hobby is guitar/music not cars. so its the same. I wouldn't mind making $$ with guitars /cars.
But, I was told you can't have both. What I have to fall back on is cars, greew up around them. Plus, some could actually make a living out of it. Racing/and building.
Never thought I say that but its true.

Thankyou for the tip about don't turbo the stocker.

You just save me a bundle lol..

There's a salvage yard in my area with a few talons/dsms the place is a secert sorry! other ohio dsmer's
So, would I need to look for when buying another engine. I've read and printed the rebuilt up/teardown Info section.
What is the size of my stock 420a short/long. lol. Is longer better (not saying it a gay way)

In the rebuilt that guy overhauled a Longblock. Is this better for going turbo like 16g.

I've read alot about and looked at different pics of DSm's with turbos for an insight.

16G is my direction, would snow damage the turbo system or front/side mount intercooler. Curious, I'm getting a second ride(truck for the snow.

You could always go back and start from scratch. Turn your mistake in something better.

Nice ride by the way. emoji

There is only "one size" 420A. The difference between a long block and a short block is whether or not the motor has the head on it. Understand? Long Block = bottom end + head. Short block = just bottom end. Now, if you are talking liters, then you can talk sizes. There is a 2.0 and a 2.4. But that's a whole other ball game I'm not sure you're quite ready for. Good luck with your rebuild.
