How adviceable would it be to drill a hole in the Manifold for the egt while it is intalled on the car. would there be any probelms with the metal shavings that would be left? Just wondering if we should take uninstall everything and take the manifold off. or if we could just do it while it is installed. TNKS

Drill the hole in the #4 runner (drivers side) with the car idling, about 2-3" from the head. This will blow all the shavings back out of the hole when the bit breaks through.

Just make sure and get the correct size bit, and that it's a NPT tap since you're not drilling into a flat surface. NPT is a pipe tap, and is made for round surfaces. Moreover, the HRC manifold is Stainless steel, and the first machine shop I took it to couldn't do it, b/c they didn't have a hard enough bit. I paid another machine shop else $25 to do it right.

I have the Star System. but I take it it is not much different. So I will look for an NPT drill bitand drill the hole, I will need to find someone that will weld it for me.... Thanks guys.

ok, now I'm confused stan... I don't have to weld in the little nut (or whatever)that the sensor screws into? otherwise how will it stay in? explain pls. any pics would help also...

Such with Westach, they will send you both a weld-in bung and a compression nut. Either will work, but both work in different ways.
Method (1) As you might guess a weld-in bung will allow you to drill in a larger hole that loosely resembles the size of the bung, and then requires you to weld the bung in the newly vacated space. After it's in place, you simply screw in your EGT temp sensor.
Method (2) A compression nut is the easier, no hassle, no welding required method. With that, you will actually find a NPT tap that drills into your manifold actuals _threads_ that will allow you to screw in your compression nut, that will hold your EGT temperature sensor in place.
Either is your choice. As you might guess, welding isn't something that a lot of us do. With either drilling procedure, remember to keep your engine running so that any embers and materials that are by-products of your drilling get blown out through the exhaust.

ok from the pieces that i have I think I have the weld in bung and then there is a piece that fits around the sensor and screws into the bung. could I just not use the bund and get an NPT tap that is the size of the piece that screws into the bung and just screw it into the manifold that way??
