I have a 97 2gnt GS and have been working on this engine for the past 6 months. I just want to have some advice on what you think about it. I plan on getting some pics up soon. Let's see....

Bottom-End
-Weisco 8.8:1 Forged pistons (.20 overbore)
-Eagle ESP Rods
-Melling Oil Pump
-Clevite 77 series Main and Rod bearings
-AFX Underdrive Pully
-ARP Main Stud kit
-Polished Crank
-All Rotating Assembly Race Balanced

Top-End
-Crower Springs
-Crower Titanium Retainers
-Crower Turbo Cams
-PEP Stainless Steel valves (std. size)
-SBI Rockers
-SBI Lifters
-Fidanza Adjustable Cam Gears
-ARP Headstud kit
-Cometic Headgasket

Transmission
-SPEC Aluminum Flywheel
-SPEC Stage 3+ Clutch w/ Aluminum pressure plate
-Phantom Grip LSD

Ignition
-MSD DIS-2 Programmable Ignition System
-MSD coilpack
-MSD 8.5mm Wires
-Denso Iridium Plugs (Heat range 6)

Cooling
-FAL Dual Slim-fan Kit
-180 Degrees Thermostat
-OBX Silicone Hoses

Fuel/Intake
-55mm Bored Throttle Body
-APEXi S-AFC II
-Ford Green-Top 440cc Injectors
-OBX 12:1 FMU
-Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
-Missing Link

Turbo Setup
-Polished Garrett T3/T04E 57 Trim
-Treadstone Racing Cast Turbo Manifold
-38mm Tial Wastegate (Remote setup)
-Greddy Type RS BOV
-Greddy Profec B Spec II BoostController
-Front Mount Intercooler
-3" V-band downpipe
-DEI Turbo Wrap kit
-Custom Charge piping

Misc.
-powdercoated Valve cover
-CoolingMist water/methanol injection System
-EGR Block-off kit
-AEM UEGO guage
-Autometer EGT guage
-Autometer boost/vac guage
-Air intake temp guage
-High-flow Cat
-Cat-back exhaust (3" soon)
-Prothane Engine Mount Kit

Now...I already know that i need to get stronger axles. Im just gonna wait till i beat the piss out of the stock ones. I know that the SAFC is not the best way to go for tunning, but around here my options are limited. I plan on going MS eventually but i just got to take the time to learn to tune it myself, but right now i dont have that kind of time. When people around this area hear the word "megasquirt", they all think its some kind of porno. I also want to note that i will take a phantom grip over a quaife or helical LSD anyday. Many teams in the NHRA proudly use the phantom grip and i dont think they would use it if it fell apart as quickly as some people say. The have a lifetime warranty for breakage and manufacturer defects along with over 120,000 miles before any signs of significant wear were found. Alright...im done ranting. Let me know what you all think of my setup. Im trying to get atleast 350whp. I cant wait to hit the dyno soon. Thanks for your advice guys.

Looks like a good setup, you will be able to run a good amount of boost like I do since you have good supporting mods.

If it were me though, I would have:

1. Kept the stock cams in, I have experienced with the turbo cams, and in reality, they do nothing.

2. You should have went +1 over sized valves. You can deffinately tell a difference between the two, as I have the +1 PEPS.

3. Dont worry about the Phantom Grip LSD, I have used it for 2 years now and I beat the hell out of my car, especially when I run 20+psi and I have YET to have any probs with it.

4. Ditch that FMU, and get either a SFMU or a Aeromotive FPR.

Looks like a very nice setup. Like mike said above, get an sfmu. Your car will run better without the S-AFC, i wouldnt go that route. The sfmu will be all you need until you get the megasquirt system.

99 RS-T
"New bottom end(8.6:1 w/long rods)"
Turbonetics 60-1/Portfueler/etc!!!!!

Sorry but I disagree with one thing Freddy.

I myself use a SAFC and I love it. I can lean out my idle so its smooth with bigger injectors and I can add fuel if I need to around 22-24psi. I like it.

I have done alot of searching on the forum and read too many posts about how the safc sucks compared to the sfmu but i would rather have something that gives a visual read-out. Plus, thats pretty much all that is used for tunning around my area. The people that do have the safc setup had only positive things to say about it.

This winter im going to continue with the engine work. I would go farther with my setup now but my car has been down for too long and i just want to see what 20+psi feels like. When i take it off the road for the winter, im going to have a stage 2 port & polish job on the head with +1mm oversized valves. I also want to have my intake manifold port & polished too. My biggest worry is going over to the MS. I have been doing alot of reading on it, but its still not gonna be easy to get my car running with it and get the power i want from it.

Thanks for your info and advice guys!

These aren't interchangeable they serve completely different purposes.
Mike uses the safc with the sfmu. I have an SFMU for sale btw!

The 12:1 rising rate fmu is for stock size injectors, I don't think you'll be able to use it with those injectors but I guess I could be mistaken... However the SFMU with the 2.72 disk/darkspring is the perfect setup for those injectors without going with MS or AEM EMS.

You may have misunderstood what i had said. I never made the statement that the safc setup sucks in general, i meant that it's what i have heard from other people on the forum. Maybe your right though, maybe i did overlook the sfmu idea. I do want to ditch the 12:1 fmu but it just wasn't at the top of the "to do" list. Getting the engine together and in the car is what im trying to work out now. I have time to buy the sfmu because im just going to keep stock injectors in while im breaking-in the engine. Im hoping to get 350+whp, what do you guys think?

No one can say whether you will make it to that power level or not, as it is based on way too many factors. I believe you have the mod list to make some serious power, but like I said, there is no way to say for sure. Good luck with the build though. It looks like you know what you are doing, and that says alot. Hopefully we will see some good numbers from you at some point in the future emoji

sitinlo made 314whp and 315ft/lbs at 18psi with a s20g 42lb inj and the SFMU also he was running stage 2 crower cams 1mm oversized valves 55mm TB ported head and some other stuff I'm sure I forgot. You won't be able to reach 350whp with those injectors.

You could be right, but im not saying that its not reachable with my setup. I was talking to a guy that made 312whp at 16psi. He used a safc and bigger turbo than a s20g though. Im not totally positive that his numbers are correct but he had the resources to back up his statement. Plus the guy who will be tunning my car, he is very good at tunning an safc. Both him and my mechanic who is helping me build my car believe that 350whp is deffineatly reachable. But only time and some dyno runs will tell for sure.

Thats cool, i have just seen so many posts about it sucking and then some that say it is alright. But you do not need it to run 22-24psi. Customrsturbo runs that without it, but all our cars are not the same. Good luck anyways with everything and we havent seen many 350whp members so it wont be easy.

I dont really need, but I am using 525cc injectors and w/ out the SAFC, my car barely idles, and in low RPM's I can lean it out more so I am not burning more gas when non-boosting.

Also, the 12:1 FMU will not work with those injectors, I have tried it a long time ago, if your going to use a regular FMU instead of the SFMU, you need the 4:1 recalibration kit.
