#96264, "Question on buying turbo kit"

Hey guys just a quick question,
Approx how long does a turbo kit last?
A local guy is selling his for about $1900
and has had it for 3 years. He put about 5000 miles on it.
I'm thinking about picking it up but worried its not going to last.
Any insight on this is much appreciated.
Thanks.

it depends on the quality of the kit in question, how well it was treated while it was installed, and how well it was installed and uninstalled.

my hahn kit has been on for 3+years now and i just recently had to have the turbo rebuilt. many last even longer

yeah this is really a question with literally any answer could last a day, could last a year. it all depends on how well it was taken care of and maintained. as with anything parts eventually wear out and seals tend to go but its gonna depend on how well you take care of your stuff. personally i would not spend almost 2 grand on used anything. i pieced mine together from hahn and ebay for less and put on a brand new s16g, manifold, fuelpump, oil line kit, gauges, intercooler pipes, everything else i got used on ebay. but if your gonna spend 2 grand get new stuff. Unless your getting a 10,000 used turbo kit for 2 grand which i doubt being the case
just my 2 cents!

It's hard to say how long the system will last. The conditions, as mentioned in the previous posts, pretty much sums it up. I've had my HRC setup for about 4 years and system parts have held up fine. Also, how hard you drive the car (racing, going into full boost, etc) will affect the life of the turbo -- which can be rebuilt. I know you're not hearing the answer you're looking for, but there too many conditions.

At 3 years old and no idea how the turbo was treated I would budget yourself for a rebuild kit or the cost of sending it off to be rebuilt. Just to be safe.
