Im new to the turbo seen. I have the Star turbo kit and I think the wastegate and blow off valve (BOV) are set for 9 psi? I am rebuilding my motor and head, I want to run 15 psi daliy and 20-22 psi on high boost, I've heard off 38mm 40mm and 50mm Tial wastegates and I wanted to know, how do I know what size to get and will I need to have a different flange put on? Same goes for the BOV those have different spings right? And what spring whould I need for the boost that I want to run? What BOV has a low sound too it and later on can use to recirculate back into the intake side of turbo?

Heya, welcome to the turbo scene... it's a whole other can of worms.
Anyhow, with the star manifold, you pretty much are limited to what wastegate you run. It comes with a turbonetics deltagate, which as far as I know doesn't have many other direct bolt ons. The other direct bolt on wastegate is the Tial 35-38mm. Anything bigger and you'd have to relocate and drill the hole bigger on the manifold. Picking the right size... the more boost you run, the more exhaust gases there are. In order to combat boost creep (unwanted boost) that is the purpose of the wastegate. For 22psi, I think a 38mm will do just fine, but you can run a 50mm as well. They all come with 7psi springs.
The BOV doesn't control boost. It releases back pressure so you don't get compressor surge on the turbo. I'd get one that reacts quickly, vents quickly, and does not leak. I could care less about the looks or the sound. I currently run a tial BOV as well... sounds great and vents quickly and won't leak. As for recirculating, this one vents to atmosphere.
In order to control boost, i run an electronic boost controller, with the 7 psi spring in the wastegate. The EBC makes the wastegate see a different psi so that you can run higher boost. This can be achieved with a manual boost controller (a valve) or running a stiffer spring in the wastegate...

I agree with everything rhui said but would like to add that it is ok for us 420As to vent the BOV to the atmosphere, we use a MAP sensor and not a MAF like the factory turbo guys.
Theres nothing wrong with the deltagate you have now but if you got the money tials are pretty.

Still how do I know the difference between BOV's, Like can I just go to a web site and pick out any BOV, if so then why should someone spend $300 for a name brand and not go on ebay buy one that looks the same on the outside for $30-80.00? Isn't there different springs, How does the BOV know when to let air out. My friend had a Turbonetics BOV and we mounted it on but when I hit the gas to hear how it sounded (car in park) the air came out the inlet side of turbo and I know thats not good, so there has to be some kind of set up when buying a BOV? ?

You hook up a vaccuum line to the BOV, when the throttle plate shuts the vaccuum in the intake manifold opens the BOV. The reason people SHOULDNT buy knock off ebay brands is quality. Crappy blow off valves leak air and usually ddont expel the air in the charge pipe fast enough, this causes air in to go back towards the turbo and create compressor surge.

forgot to add, the reason why people buy HKS and GReddy instead of no name brand is the same reason they buy coke and pepsi instead of no name brand soda

Hehe, this analogy isn't that good . Some no name brand sodas can be good.
I'd buy a brand name BOV because it won't leak, and will discharge air quick enough.
Not all brand name BOVs are good though. Do you research .

I installed a dump off tube on my wastegate and its really loud at idle. Is that normal? I know the wastegate valve has a 1/8" gap all around it so there is a lot of blow by, my question is do they make some wategates that seal up completely?

It should not be loud it idle. Did you forget to put the valve-shaped ring seat in the bottom of the wastegate before you bolted it to the manifold? It should not be leaking at all at idle.

No I bought this turbo kit second hand and It did not come with it. I know what your talking about but I wasn't sure if that's what it was for. Thanks for the conformation.
