Ok, here's my situation summarized; I have a '97 RS 5-spd, plan to make one of the meanest 420a's (top10), and suffecient "funds" won't be available until early 2007, and here is how I plan on building it (ROUGH parts list/no real order) small parts/accessories excluded (gauges, return lines, gaskets, etc):

- ZEITRONIX WIDEBAND
- MegaSquirt-I v3.0 ECU (4.0bar MAP sensor)
- Wiseco Forged Pistons - 8.6:1
- Eagle I-Beam Rods
- Clevite 77 Rod/Main Bearings
- ARP Main Studs
- Cometic HG
- Crower Stage 2 (possibly 3 if streetable) Cams
- AEM Tru-Time Adjustable Cam Gears
- ACT 2900 clutch
- Quaife LSD
- FP GREEN series turbo
- 32x12x4 FMIC (SS piping)
- Custom built/ported/machined head (titanium retainers, double springs, blah, blah)
- "reinforced" 5-spd tranny from an '02 neon
- 1000cc PTE injectors
- 255lph walbro fuel pump
- High pressure melling oil pump
- Tial 38mm wastegate nad BOV

Uh, gotta cut this short, small emergency just popped up feedback on existing post would be appreciated...updates later.

You want to be in the top 10 of what? I don't know how you would gauge that, but in my book I am always #1!

Haha anyways, some pointers. ACT doesn't make clutches for us. Your choices are South Bend, Spec, and Clutch Masters. May be others but I don't know.

That front mount is fucking huge. It will be too tall unless you plan on cutting out a good section of your front bumper cover to expose it.

Is that injector size a number you just threw out there or something you calculated based on your goals and fuel needs?

Don't forget ARP head studs too.

Otherwise looks good. But lists are easy to make. Actually following through on it is a little harder

Amen to that.

- MegaSquirt-I v3.0 ECU (4.0bar MAP sensor)

As fast as MSnS is advancing, I wouldn't be concerned about Version.

- Wiseco Forged Pistons - 8.6:1

I will never buy Wiseco pistons ever again.

- Cometic HG

I've been advised by a two-time European Rally Champion to "Stay the fuck away from Cometic HGs." I intend to do so. (Plus, I don't know that they make them for the 420A.)

- Crower Stage 2 (possibly 3 if streetable) Cams

Maybe the Crower 2 turbo cams. Read the cam thread in Adv.Tuning for more information.

- AEM Tru-Time Adjustable Cam Gears

I don't want anything AEM on my car. Period.

- ACT 2900 clutch

Nothing available for the 420A.

- FP GREEN series turbo

Old technology. Why would you want to install a 5+ yr old turbo on your car a year from now.

- "reinforced" 5-spd tranny from an '02 neon

Never heard of this. Are you confusing the final drive mod which makes all your gears taller?

- Tial 38mm wastegate nad BOV

Because you gotta relieve the pressure in those nads.

This sorta sounds like one of those biggest, most expensive parts I could find, build lists. Shit. You might as well add an Iconel tubular manifold, full battery of high performance coatings for the insternals, alcohol injection and carbon fiber everything.

This far out, you need to be more generic. Determine a target or goal - 400whp, 10 second quarter, lateral g in autoX, 0-60 in 3sec and build for that. I'll tell you one thing, building your car to be the most fully-built anything gets old in the end. It will turn out to be something you can't drive as often as you would like and it's still going to be a ten year old car with creaks and rattles. If you want bragging rights and a car that requires 110 octane race gas that you have to buy in 55gal drums (at $6/gal) which you only drive on and off a trailer to the dyno, then go for it, but just remember it becomes a chore when it's no longer fun.

Words of wisdom...

I have the quaife and neon tranny and love it. Just make sure that the neon tranny you get has the 3.55:1 gearing. I am also using the zeitronix wideband. Again, its incredible as long as you spend the extra cash for the boost sensor to go with it.

go with just a MLS headgasket.

you also might want to consider a water/alcohol injector

lets not forget that all of that new horsepower needs to be reined in every once and a while so dont forget to upgrade, tires, brakes, and suspension as well.
