#93961, "a/f gauge"

ok so i installed my a/f today, took me like 3 hours lol. here's what i did, i extended all three lines with some wire which was a bit bigger than the ones attached to gauge, is that ok? i bought the wire for my boost gauge lighting and ground wires (same size). anyhow so i connect purple to o2 sensor by just taking a bit of the plastic off then i just inserted the wire through half of the wiring and looped it around then taped, is that also ok? my red went to the ciggarette lighter blue wire same thing with tape over. and my ground FOR NOW went to my seat bracket (where the bolt screws bracket into ground. thats bare metal isnt it? anyways i turn on the car and gauge works but i have no idea how to read it. at first it starts bouncing back and forth then stopped on the right (2 green lights) so i decide to take it out for a drive. all it does is just bounce back and forth while driving and when i rev it goes all crazy. i duno if this is right or maybe cause my ground was bad? but what should my gauge read for non-turbo (installing turbo this week).
thx

Ok, well first, I personally would solder the wires or use a splice. Not tape and the method you used. Secondly, at idle it is normal to bounce to and fro, however at WOT it should be in the green and not "going crazy".

if it doesnt do what its supposed to i know at idle and at wot then i have a problem with the sensor

No no no. Solder now. It takes no time and ensures you have a good connection.

Trust me, you don't want to short cut when installing a turbo. You'll blow something up because your tape job for your A/F gauge went bad and you had no idea you were running lean.

If you're going to do it, do it right.

Brian

PS. WOT means "wide open throttle". In other words, flooring it.

You have got to be kidding me dude.

I have helped you through like almost everything through email and your just crazy, lol.

I seriously cannot believe you are turbo'ing your car, and you didnt know what WOT is. Your even in an Automotive class in school?

I am not trying to be dick, although I know I am coming across as one, but dude, lets be for real. I know everyone has to start somewhere, but with a turbo, and not knowing what WOT or even reading or knowing what an A/F gauge is/reads, you need to RESEARCH even more before you start boosting kid. You said before your going to be boosting 2-3psi. I would keep it there and never go ANY higher or I can already tell you your going to have MAJOR problems...

Go ahead and call me a dick now, I am awaiting it emoji

oh yeah one question.. today i went out and bought some vacume lines. i bought the same size vac line as the little piece i got with my boost controller cause it seemed to fit nice on sfmu, bov, etc. but i could not find T's that would have side as big as my normal vac line cause they were way too huge. what should i do? what size vac did u guys use? and explain how u got taps big enough to fit onto normal hoses which come with our cars but have taps small enough to fit size hoses that will go on bov and other stuff. or should i just move something somewhere else and leave 1 empty to use bov and sfmu on?

Just a fair word of warning here. Be careful who you take advice from on this website. This guy couldn't even get his intercooler pipes on the right way and has blown up several motors, lol. I'm not too sure if he is in a position to be giving out such ludicrous advice yet. haha. Do a search for better more reliable FACTUAL information. fair warning...

And this guy here cant even get his shit straight. I have never 'blown' any motor actually. And if you want FACTUAL information, usually never take it from this guy cuz all he likes do to do is fuck around.

I was kidding about the brake booster hose dude. You can just take off a vac hose and leave it off, then you will have a leak. You need to get the proper T and T into a vac source. Not sure what year your car is, I forget, but you might even have an open vac port on the back of your intake manifold...Did you look for an open port at all?

Riiiight. uh-huh. It wasn't so long ago that you were the one asking the most stupid questions on this board or even on the face of the planet. I would be careful handing out such condescending advice when you aren't exactly playing with a full deck yourself...
http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=85784&mesg_id=85784&listing_type=search#85790

2 spun bearings... close enough to a blown motor, lol. Didn't you just throw new bearings in there and do the exact same thing again?

http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=83107&mesg_id=83107&listing_type=search

Anyways, back to the point, n3wbie, search and all shall be revealed. I wouldn't just blindly trust people on here who tell you to yank your brake booster vac line and who think an FMU controls your oil pressure as well, lol.
either way, good luck and solder those connections for a more solid, stable reading. The narrowband AF gauge is good for knowing what your stock ECU is seeing and that is not worthless.

It was a valve guide, obviously something you know nothing about. Well, thats pretty much everything, lol. I didn't know which direction they were pressed in, hence my logical educated questions. I love how as soon as anyone here calls out your ineptitude (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=ineptitude So you know what that crazy ass long word means) you immediately revert to kindergarten name calling, lol. You make it so easy I swear.

Every now and then someone has to let the n3wbies know the mis-informed on the board! Consider it a community service.

lol yea i kind of realised u can't just leave a vac line out like that even though i am a BANME! huh? howcome everytime i say n-o-o-b it changes to BANME! lol. anyhow guys no need to fight over who's gona help emoji LOL j/k but i seriously need help.. all ports on back of manifold are being used, and far one to the right has some sort of metal line attached to, however i did find one that fits the vac lines i bought real well, heres some pics

the port is obviously smaller than all the others but it just fits the lines i bought so nicely and boost gauge tap also fits in there perfect, my only concern is that if i use this for gauge, sfmu, and bov im thinking thats not a good idea right? can i atleast use it for sfmu and boost gauge? or is it too small? oh yeah and see the line im holding which i pulled off the port in 2nd pic. what line is that for?
THX GUYS!

ok boost gauge installed today without lighting or ground... just vac. heres what happened, when i was feeding line through carpet it somehow bent real bad but i was able to unbend it so tested if it was leaking but it wasnt, it still had a little bend though so i wasnt sure if my readings were perfect. anyhow took the car out for a spin, for non turbo is it supposed to stay down around 20 vac at idle? and with open throttle it was just sliiiiiiightly under 0 and i think it was because of the bent line. anyhow is this all correct? also does anyone know if any hardware store like home depot would sell same line that comes with autometer boost gauge?
thx
