#9380, "HRC Stage 2 & Emissions...."

Hi everyone,

I have a '96 Eagle Talon ESi (bone stock). I'm sure this has been posted before, but I'm planning on buying the HRC Stage 2 kit. I live in Reno, Nv and we have the same emissions standards as California (sucks hardcore). A guy here that works on DSM's at a muffler shop says if I run it under 10 psi of boost I should be fine. He also says that there's another guy in town running a HRC kit. I called HRC and they said they don't get many orders from out here and don't hear about emissions so they weren't sure if I'd pass. Anyway, I was planning on running the kit at 7 psi when I get it until I can upgrade and seriously modify it for racing (in which case I'll have another car to drive around). My question is, if I get the kit and run it at 7 psi, will I still pass emissions? Thanks for anyone's help in this area (I'm new to racing and modifying).

Not sure what hoops you have to jump through, but...if the car is tuned right, warmed up, and running at low load (ECU adjusting fuel) then the turbo should have a negligible affect on tailpipe emmissions. What the turbo does affect is cold-start emmissions. The turbo acts as a big heat sink when the car is started cold. It takes a few minutes to warm the turbo up, so hot exhaust can make it down to the cat converter to warm it up. Cat converters only work right when they are hot.
