#93268, "TurboXS RFL and Greddy Type-S BOV Copies"

Hey, I searched first but didn't find the info I was looking for... What I'm trying to do here is get a few different bov's to try out so I can find a nice sound I'm looking for. I really don't want to spend a lot tho because I want to save my hard earned money to upgrade my motor. How do the copies of these bov's fair to the originals as far as sound and performance? I have a greddy type-rs right now and I don't really like it, I'm lookin for somethin a little bit louder. I'm only running 5 psi right now. I'm hearing the rfl is freakin loud, and the greddy s has kind of a distinct sound. Any help will be much appriciated. Thanks

I am in the same boat as you...I want a RFL or Greddy Type S. Im using a Greddy RS now and its not meant for low boost applications such as the 8 psi Im running, flutters real bad. So i'd like to know this also.

Well, you can take one of your 2 springs out, that will clear up the flutter. That's what I did and I'm @ 5psi. I'm just not satasfied with the sound...

the RFL is awesome, has two sounds, basically when just driving lets say at 1-2 psi it makes that whistle sound like the greddy type s, but at 5psi+ it makes that loud whoosh sound. And yes, only 5psi. I've heard it sounds like a damn big rig at the higher boost levels. Can't wait!

I have the Greddy "like" type S bov and it works and looks the same as the real thing. And just like the real Greddy, mine fluttered at 5 psi so I removed the smaller of the 2 springs and that stopped the flutter. But now it leaks when I rev and when I'm building boost while driving. I'm thinking about just putting the spring back in and dealing with the flutter.

Is this what you guys are talking about or is it from somewhere else. I had a bad experience with a type s wannabe bov from ebay. It let the air out but my hks standard bov from the star kit was louder than the replica types s. Gave it to a friend to use as a paper weight. I wanna know if the rfl replica from ebay is any better.

Did you get the ebay one? I also decided to get one. The greddy to txs adapter is a ripoff for 30 bux. Oh well.

I have the RFL is a decently made piece, but I don't know anything about the knockoffs.

The trick with bypass valves is that you should be looking for one that is adjustable, won't leak, and is quiet. The wooshing sound all the time gets old really quick, and it attracts cops like a magnet.

FYI... The factory 1G bypass valve is widely avaiable, is extremely inexpensive, can be "adjusted", is pretty quiet, and can modified so it doesn't leak even under 20+ PSI of boost. I've used one before (open to atmosphere) and I like how it sounds.

Yeah the noveltie wears off after a while, although when I had the RFL, it had its moments of scaring sorority girls advertising for their fundraiser carwash.

I just got the Greddy Type-S BOV copy, and it sounds pretty similiar. I had to remove the hard spring in order for it to stop fluttering. But it has the same sound as Greddy S.
