#92620, "Rough Idle, and fuel cut I believe..."
Jan-08-06 04:25 PM by kasper6188

Hey everyone, I'm new to 2gnt.I just bought a project car from someone in my town. It's an RS-T with a HRC Stage 1 kit. I checked everything over in the install an it has a walbro 255 in tank, a Begi FPR (50ish psi @ idle), the FMU that comes with hrc stage 1, greddy type RS bov, and is boosting 5psi. My question is, when I got the car, everything ran perfect, cept it seems like it's eating gas, I put about 500 miles on it and one day it just seemed like it was out of gas, like I'd pull through first gear and once I shifted into second, it didn't go anywhere and shook pretty bad like it was running out of gas (it had 1/2 tank of 93 octane mind you) I turned it off right away. A while later I started it back up , it ran rough, a lil lower idle and it seemed like it was bogging down. It even died a few times. Ever sence it's been like that. I have a cel code for no responce from o2 sensor (maybe why I'm burning gas) and high map signals (no missing link) My idle seems decent until I come to a complete stop too, if that helps any... please someone let me know what you think. I'm not a big nerd who bought this car to be sweet, i know what i'm in for keepin it going and which is why I call it a a project. Take it easy everyone...

The year is a 97. yea, well, I went back to autozone to get it scanned again. I had them scan it while running and cyl 2 and 3 have a random misfire. The plugs, wires and coil are good. The Map sensor is good, I just put new NGK Iridium's in there today, there was some crappy champion plugs in there. The new plugs made the mis a lot better, but did not clear it up entirely. It also misses while you rev it lightly, u can hear it mis from the block if you stick your ear down there. No idea what's causing that. I was wondering if my fuel filter could be causing the hesiation while accellerating that happened to me the other day. Well, let me know what ya think everyone, thanks a bunch

Did you get the missing link on? The map sensor will read fine at idle, it will not when it sees positive pressure.

Also get that missing link. You sure you dont have a little black box coming off the map sensor..thats what came with the Hahn kits.

BKR6E gapped at .032

Get them. Iridium Plugs are garbage imo.

Have you actually checked the resistance in the wires.

If the car is running pull the #2 plug wire out and see if it runs the same. Do it with #3 also. If the engine runs the same with a wire removed it's def. an issue with that cylinders plug and or wire.

Those are iridium plugs and they are not suppised to be re-gapped.

The proper copper plugs for the 420a are the BKR6E (one range cooler for a turbo app) in that heat range, the extra -11 on the iridium plugs indicates the gap from factory. 1.1mm or 0.043"

The iridiums run an extended gap, the coppers a smaller gap. The coppers and iridiums have different sparking characteristics due to the metal used and the size of the electrode.

Just do what's best for your motor. Go buy the cheap NGK v-grooves. Gap them to 0.9mm or 0.035" and boost away.

I think I speak for any turbo'd 420a owner.

I got the BKR7E plugs today, I have a HRC stage 1 kit, and the car is still bogging down, actually worse than it was with the BKR6EIX-11's. Any other ideas? Could my bad o2 be causing a rich condition fouling out my plugs?

Change the friken o2 sensor and stop thinking about it. It's a vital sensor for your engine and could def. be fucking things up for you.
