Its been awhile since I've been on here but I finally graduated college and have the money to start my dream eclipse project. I have a red 98 RS(current mods below). It'll be awhile before its done(hopefully a few months) but I'm pulling the engine some time in the next week or so. I've never done this before so this'll be a learning experience even if its a complete failure. I just wanted to know if I should post pics of the project(even if its done by amatuers) and if anybody would be interested in checking them out. I figured I'd ask first so I wouldn't look like a complete jackass if I just threw them on the site. Besides, I've noticed some increasing hostility toward the nubes since I've returned to the site.
P.S. My plans include obviously a "master performance" rebuild kit from Howell (sending to a shop for the engine rebuild and balancing), turbo kit from Hahn(probably 16G stage II w/FMIC), upgraded clutch(not entirely sure what to do here yet), 3" exhaust from Hahn(turbo back including downpipe, off-road, cat, etc.) Portfueler, light nitrous if possible and whatever else you guys suggest. Yeah, I got a pretty big graduation $present$. EVery little bit helps. As I said, I'm not rebuilding the engine myself, just pulling and installing it. Other suggestions welcome!
Current mods include(but not limited to): Eibach pro-kit KYB adjustables AF/X underdrive 18" wheels w/ BFG g-force T/A KDW's GS rear brake conversion (thanks 2gnter's for help with that one!) Sound System w/DVD (too tired to elaborate) I think I have suspension performance covered and I can't think of anything else this late. Thanks for your input and simply letting me know if this is worth updating!

Is it that tough to give another sentence why you wouldnt want to do that, im guessing thats why you wrote that. Ive searched and the only negative that ive found about Howell is it make take a while to get your block back, a usual given with any good builder.
You may also want to contact VT Engines/FTY for your engine build, from what I read they do a great job.. 519-245-1164.. it cant hurt.

He mentioned that he would be sending his motor to a shop, not necessarily being Howell... I don't even know if they have a shop; don't know much about them. Seeing as though I do not know anything about Howell, I guess you just interpretted my post wrong. My statement refers to researching how to do all the work yourself while saving a very substantial amount of money from labor. As mentioned before, this would all be a learning experience for him. And as any true DSMer knows, once you purchase a DSM, you become your own mechanic.

Sending a motor off to be rebuilt isn't that expensive. It shouldn't cost more than $500 or so to have the bottom done, including balancing. When you consider this guy is talking about spending almost $6,000 in the next couple months on his car, that $500 isn't really an issue. The way I see it, if the shop balances everything for you, might as well have them install it all.
Congrats on graduating, sir. I aim to be there in October. This sub-$25k/yr bullshit has got to stop!

I have a SPEC Stage 3 and it's been working GREAT for me. No slipping, grabs great, holds all the power I'll be throwing at it. Have you had problems with yours? I've got over 10K miles on mine. :

Hey thanks man, it feels good to be done with school for now. I'll probably be living off the microwave for awhile still though(haven't found a girl to teach me how to cook yet). Anyway I plan on pulling the engine this weekend if I can find another engine stand and can borrow a hoist. I have the front end completely taken apart including headlights out, bumper and hood off and the exhaust removed from the header back. Just a few hoses and bolts before she'll come out. I'll post pictures as I go so you guys can set me straight on all the things I'm doing wrong. Check back in a few days if your interested.
BTW - For those of you wondering why I took the headlights and bumper off to pull the engine I didn't, I'm also going to have some body work done(We'll see how much $$ I have after the rebuild). Hopefully a new paint job and a Buddy Club 2 kit. Yeah, this is going to be a long project. I'll keep ya posted! Oh, yeah, thanks for the feedback!
