#9251, "weird fcd problem"

I was in the impression that our cars needed a vc1 or fcd to run properly under boost. Is this for certain year models only?In troubleshooting my car we found that the 1296 unknown code was for a map sensor not a the 02 that was thought of before.Well we tested the map and it wasn't getting voltage from the signal wire at all.We removed the fcd and it had the proper readings now from the map.Weird thing is my car ran just fine w/ out it.
The next dilemma was we were still getting the 1296 code.We unhooked the safc and the code went away.question,do you guys who have safc's have this similar code?should i just leave it and run the car w/ out the fcd?satan says it's causing my car to run w/ improper mixtures, and might be why I can't lean out the 440's at -50%.Problem w/ leaving the safc and the code on is that it might have been the cause of my ecu getting fried.
I'm not sure if it was just the 96's and below that needed the fcd,can someone verify this for me...any inputs on what I should do?

95's don't need a FCD. 96 and higher do. I've heard of 96's haveing wierd problems with the SFAC and CEL's.. Never happened to me.

You're running a pressure type sensor setting in your AFC, right? NOT what RRE says to run?
