#91763, "16g or t3/t4?"

Im getting into the turbo game and i was wondering what turbo i should use..the s16g or a t3/t4? Im not really worried about spool time but i dont want something that is horribly laggy..also i want to have an agressive spool. I would also like to retain reliabilty for daily driving. Wanting to run 8psi daily..10 at the track. Whats everyone think?

Turbo 420a's go WOOO WOOOOOO!

I recommend a t3/t4 for later upgrade purposes. If you get a .63/50trim turbo like the star kit uses, you will be happy with the results. The 50 trim will allow you more room for growth than the 16g IMO. Later on if you choose to upgrade the turbo, you will have many more choices (bolt on with no mods to downpipe ect) available than the 16g

For reference later on, here is a site that specializes in garrett based turbo's: http://www.atpturbo.com/

I run a standard t3 60trim and it works beautifully for 8-12psi. Very fast spool. STT: Are you sure star uses a .63a/r 50trim compressor? That is the turbo I'm interested in right now, maybe I could pick one up off of a member and save some cash. For some reason I didn't think that the star was a 50 trim.

Go with the super 16g, it is great. Or go for the Precision SC61 like me, j/k, either way, both turbos are great for 8psi. It all comes down to what you like, its your car.

My vote is with the t3/t4. More chances and room for upgrade. But if your sticking with the 8-10 PSI, sounds like you don't have a built motor yet....you will! One you feel boost, you'll want more. It happens to the best of us. The s16 will be a good turbo, but after you upgrade down the road, your gonna want to be pushing a lot more boost.

I thought the star kit had a smaller a/r than a 60.

Try this site:

Picked up mine...oddly, pretty cheaply!

Fully Built MS powered 99' GS Sport, Garrett T3/T04e 60 trim with one big ass intercooler!

Yeah, she runs...sorta!

The star kit came with a 50trim turbo unless you upgraded. You were able to order a Ball Bearing turbo, a 60 trim, and a few others. Now later on right before the kit was discontinued, i thought they offered more options but to be honest i really am not sure. Most of the kits out there had a 50 trim like mine.

mine was upgraded by garret to 60 trim . you said you want a aggresive turbo then you want the 60trim . it takes a little longer to start spooling up but when it does it spools hard and fast . you will definitly be happy.

I have the star turbo and mine is a 50 trim. Verify it before you buy it because there were a few other options available before they stopped making the kit.
