im not sure sure but powdercoating these parts might prevent it for a little while...

I don't think they're rusted. That discolored surface on the HRC exhaust manifolds is actually common as it's the normal by-product of extreme high temps on stainless steel.

BTW, by the very nature and attribute of stainless steel, it does not rust.

Contrary to popular belief stainless steel does rust!! Somehow here at work I was talked into taking a graduate level course on corrosion and corrosion control (I'm a mechanical engineer and everything I work on is designed to spend it's lifetime in saltwater). Given the right situation stainless steel will rust. I saw a stainless steel eye bolt rusted through simply because there was a nylon rope tied to it in seawater.

However if the turbo housing is made of stainless steel I doubt it is rust. Probably just discoloration due to high heat.

Maybe try ceramic coating it. Powdercoating it will burn right off.

Geez...you engineers kill me. Always coming up with exceptions to the rule. It's not like lawyers do that sort of thing! emoji

Note to self: Keep turbo and exhaust manifold away from seawater and nylon ropes. emoji
