#91569, "Decided to go turbo, piecing together kit..."

Okay I've been interested in getting a turbo kit for my car since I bought it, but all I knew about them at the time was the HRC kit, which was too much.

Now that I know a little more about what I'm doing, I want to piece together a kit. This is what I have so far...if any of y'all know where I can get any of this for cheapest, let me know.

T3/T4 turbo (overkill? Also considering an Evo3 B16g)
Apex'i S-AFC II
RC 440 Injectors
Greddy Profec B Spec II
Defi Boost, a/f, and ? gauges
Oil Line Kit?
FMIC kit - intercooler/piping n all that jazz..
Downpipe
255 lph fuel pump - overkill? Will a 190 work for now?
FPR
Greddy Type S BOV
Wastegate?
Some kind of engine management - what would y'all recommend using with an safc and 440s?
Exhaust manifold
Gaskets, flanges, etc...

So what all am I missing and where would y'all recommend I buy each piece?

-Taylor

Defi gauges? Wow money poorly spent, those things are a fortune.

The rest, search. Skip an Evo3 16G and get a Super 16G instead. T3/T4s are fine, I use one no problems, plenty of guys use bigger turbos no problems, but yeah, I'm not going to go through your list, search!

eh i'll go through your list.

scratch the safc, you dont need it.
get the s16g in leiu of the evo 16g
unless you're pushing ~15psi, you dont need 440s, 30lb (315cc) injectors will work nicely up to 10psi
the greddy looks like a good boost controller, and from what i've read everyone seems to like it.
a/f gauges are pretty much useless, check into a wideband o2
yes you need oil feed and drain lines
fmic = good
255lph fuel pump is a necessity, dont skimp on that they're less than $100
for an fpr get the vortech s-fmu (i have one for sale too, how convienient) a standard fmu will work too
some kind of blow off valve, doesnt really matter, i have the greddy type s and i like it, it serves its purpose
your turbo may have an internal wastegate, if not you need an external with a flange welded to the turbo manifold you didnt mention

dont boost over 8psi on a stock motor, especially with stock injectors, it'll blow up (hehe)

all i can really see thats missing from your list is an exhaust manifold and a fuel cut defender (missing link, etc..)

if you're 96+ you're going to need to run a fuel return line from the fmu back to the tank. I used aluminum hard line but others have used stainless and rubber lines. i'd shy away from rubber though.

but yea.. you're going to need to spend some quality time with the search feature, you'll find all you need and more.

You might want to rate will for going out of his way is all I have to say.

On another note I have a s16g for sale now and soon to have a set of 30# injectors for sale once I pull the motor.

Yeah sorry, I've been using the Search button too.

I'm going to buy this turbo kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DOHC-420A-ECLIPSE-non-turbo-T3-T4-TURBO-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQitemZ8016413916QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

From that it looks like what I'll need to complete this kit is:
Vortech S-FMU
Intercooler + piping
Boost controller
Wideband o2
Boost gauge
Missing Link
Injectors (440 will suit?)

I don't plan on boosting over 8psi right now since the engine is completely stock...I might even boost lower until I can get it built or tuned real nice since she has 141k on her.

How much did you want for that S-FMU?

Alright....

Will my stock internals handle the Garrett T3 in that auction I linked off to? Or will they at least handle it for 2-4 months until I can afford to have the engine rebuilt with a forged bottom end?

Sure it can handle it, can probably handle almost all turbos. The question is how much boost can it handle. Keep the boost low until you know your engine can handle it.

Well this is my daily driver, so until the engine rebuild I planned on keeping it at ~6 lbs. I know the stock block can handle 8 lbs on stock internals safely, but I'm not 100% convinced when you add 141k miles to that. emoji
