#91156, "Hey what's everyone!! anyone broke the 400whp barrier?"

hey what's up!? whoever remembers me. just passing by to see how's the boost business. it's been awhile that i posted here since my unfortunate robbery. but i'd like to see you guys succeed in reliable high HP levels. i see most of you have rebuilds and some serious turbos. and that Mega Squirt has come along way. i hope many of you tuners go the wideband O2 route, 'cause it's more accurate than the SAFC, or blinky lights. leave that MAP sensor alone. heehehhe! well let me know, sup Dino, Corbin, and the rest of the old crew.

well i hope someone will step up finally. i've been on this board since hmmmmm i think it was exactly 4 years ago, and the only one who's done it is Bill Hahn and Armond30. i'm sure it's an expensive and risky route to get there. but with the new technology now with tuning and new turbo designs, i'm sure you all can do it. i feel our only down fall is just traction. are there any new companies that make better clutches? it's time to get some C16 and hit them dynos.

Hey man. Long time no see. Don't forget that some of us are still aiming for the elusive 200hp mark without a snail or bottle. This will be the winter we find out, but my trubo plans for the 2GNT have finally died. Daisy will be all motor til she dies.

I'm working on a new setup (based on GT35/40R) that's expected to break 600 WHP (no nitrous). Should be done within 8 weeks.

Thura's 398whp was done at < 20 psi too I believe.

Actually I know of 4 people that have broken 400whp (on a 420a ... 2gnt or Avenger) and I'm just a hair short. My 398whp was done at 22-23psi on 110 octane on a S20G-H just for clarification.

In all honesty, I'm sure there could probably be another 4 or 5 on the board that can get there also ... turbo is large enough ... fuel system good enough ... but 23+psi is a little scary ... one mistake and boom. Plus driving around with 400+hp alone is a little unnerving ... well at least for me.

Err ... and what car was meant to have it? A vette, couple of AMG benzs, ferraris. Come on. Please. Just because it didn't come from the factory that way doesn't mean it wasn't meant to have it. All the current import cars that people are making silly HP numbers on (Supras, RX-7s, etc etc) didn't even have close to that amount of power from the factory. My statement on it being unnerving comes from the it just accelerates too damn fast for its own good. Take for example passing a few cars on the freeway. You'll drop it into 3rd or 4th and floor it for a few seconds ... if I do it I'll be staring 115mph. As for the rest of the car handling the power it's fine ... it's still unnerving watching your speedo move that fast.

i meant that it was never intended to have that kind of power when it left the factory, not that it couldnt handle it. i know its unnerving to watch a speedo move that fast because although my car is slow as all hell, ive driven my buddies gsx which was nicely modded and damn fast and i thought i was going to crap my pants.

I stand corrected then... but I'm pretty sure Thura's the only one who posted slips/dynochart? Either way, thats badass if you guys made it to 400. Had no idea.

I am working on a project along with two other tuners on here to not only break 400 hp, but to double it... 800 hp. We're about a month into the planning of it, and fixing to start working on the setup...

It'll be done a month or two after I get enough money... lol

Agreed. A quote like that is just a quote until there is proof. Not saying you can't/won't do it, but that's a pretty lofty goal.
Plus, what clutch/tranny setup would you use?

sorry that's not going to happen...800HP and 2.0L/4cyl won't be happening. you pretty much have to go with another engine like drop in a supra engine. that's a waste of money. 600hp is possibly the most you can handle. besides they make no clutches that can handle that kind of power. if you know something i don't please inform me.

You have no idea what you're talking about, do you? 800HP is VERY doable with a 2.0L. Want examples? The two best examples I can come up with is John Shepherd and Brent Rau. Ofcoarse, their engines are more than the typical forged internal/big turbo setups that you're used to seeing.

How do you know 600 is the max? Have you tried to make more power than that? If not, then why bull shit and act like you do know? FYI- there are companies that will make a clutch for this much torque.

As much as i would like to see a 420a hit 800hp, Its most likely not happening anytime soon.

Agreed. I have one. Just not the 600-800hp motor though...
For those that do not know, LUK produces a performance factory replacement clutch for the SRT4/Pt Turbo that can hold 450lbs ft of torque. I have an inside connect who was able to alter the clamp load to support more tq. than my stage 4 axles were built for. It was delivered with an as tested rating on the tag of 792.4nm which roughly translates to 580ftlbs... so it is doable.

Even though I too have lofty goals, I say more power to you in your pursuit. Some people need to set the goals high, if it didn't happen in the past we would still be NA. Although the "realism" sets in way too frequently.

I am 99% sure GM's Ecotec racing engines are 2.2 liters that make about 1300 horsepower. a 2.0 getting to 800 is totally possible.

The Ecotec is making tons of power b/c GM is pouring millions of dollars into racing and promoting it. Mitsu doesn't give an F about drag racing, they're even going out of their way to deny the warranty of Evo owners for racing after they promoted the shit out of its "rally blood lines". The guys who are doing their best to hang with Gardella and Lumis are doing this out of their own pocketbooks. I talked with Shep about his sponsorships when i was in his garage, you'd be surprised how little assistance he actually gets. Its pennies when compared to a factory backed program.

Your being a little nieve if you think 800hp is some magical unobtainable number in a 4cy. Its not easy and will take a total ass ton of money and careful well thoughtout engineering. I have a very close friend with a 4g thats modded to the hilt with an uber expensive HKS t04z, a very expensive one off mani and every supporting mod under the sun, he made somewhere around 650whp with one of the better 4g63 tuners taking care of his car from start to finish. Its not easy and it certainly isn't cheap.

How much are we guessing that Bill makes to propel that 420a down the 1320 as fast as he is? I'd imagine hes making over 500. I dont think thats out of the question judging by his ET's and the fat ass our cars have.

400whp or bust.

After making 1300hp on their race motor, GM then revealed every secret of the setup, gave you a step by step of how to do it, and now any idiot with $20k can make a 1300hp Cobalt... and Hahn Racecraft is one of the primary tuning companies they recommend for any power level over stock, on account of their awesome Ecotec turbo kits which existed before GM's 1300hp race car.

oh believe me i know about Brent Rau, 4g63, RWD,"ALL DRAG" setup, 2.0 with a thousand sponsers and everything upgraded to the max in that thing. and BTW the 4g63 has more support than the 420A. i'm referring street setup reiable HP, like if you were to drive a porsche GT in the street with no worries of breaking down. that's what i meant. 800HP and street don't mix. sorry i didn't clarify my comment i was in a hurry. it's not easy to make a 420A that powerful. i'm not doubting the engine, i'm just saying it's not easy to make it 800HP than to 600hp that Bill Hahn actually accomplished with his neon, and it's streetable. that's the max i've seen. no one has proved it can do anything higher than that. so what companies are there with clutches and our "race type" trannies we have that can handle that.

FWIW, I've personally touched a 750+hp 420a with a 2GNT Eclipse head out of Shawn Carlson's 8-second SRT4. (Yes, It felt good.) Not streetable, not even watercooled, but it's possible anyways.

A local tuning shop in my area believes they found the limit of a standard bore 4g63 block -800whp. They knew that was the limit because once attained, they cracked the cylinder wall into the water jacket. Remember that this block was standard bore. While listening to the tech there tooting his horn, he said that once you are around 200hp per bucket, you need to start doing "tricks" to make the block stay together. It is possible to take an engine passed 800whp and over 1000whp.

They said that one of their "tricks" could be that they are going to fill the coolant area with cement except for a small portion below the head. If its going down the track in <9 seconds, does it really have a chance to get hot enough to warrent lots of coolant?

Thanks! I have stock axles, but lately I have been broken them at the line. I will get some aftermarket soon. I have the phantom grip. In that video I had just installed, in some latest runs is been gripping better. I guess that is why I have been breaking axles. It just snap the shaft. As H. Racecraft write in his web site, This engine/transmission combo can handle the abuse.

I still have a working A/C. But the runs are made without the power steering & A/C belt. I keep blowing it off and once the alternator belt.

Nice setup and runs, almost the same as me(soon). I am getting the portfuer instead of 8-injector. I have the Precision SC61, BFG drag radials on stock 15 inch mitsubishi wheels, and SPEC stage 3 clutch.

You will love that turbo, as long as you have the fuel. How many psi can the Portfueler handle? I think is 20psi, if so try to upgrade to a higher map/pressure sensor if you can. Let me know of your future improvements.

Good job custom! Only thing I saw is that you spelled the word coming wrong in the beginning intro of your video. I think you spelled it comming. Just wanted to let you know so you could change it if you wanted to.

Other than that, very sweet video and your car looks great too. Any up close stills of your car we can look at? You know interior/exterior/engine pics.

When was the last time anyone saw or spoke to Armond? or Chris (Murix) for that matter? I met them both at NOPI Nationals 2002 in the ATL and saw Armonds car in person. It's a sweet ride and I believe he put down 405WHP. Wonder what ever happened to their cars.

Both cars were parted out. I know so because I purchased Armond's turbo manifold, downpipe, injectors and Accel DFI. I also bought Murix's Apexi FMIC, intercooler piping and CM4 clutch. I'm not sure what's up with ADP these days... I haven't talked to Armond in quite some time.

How are you liking your RX8. I knew Chris picked one up but I forgot you did. My friend is a die hard Mazda guy who used to have a supercharged, then turbocharged MX-3 w/ the 2.5L engine, a turbo Miata and now he turbo'ed his RX-8. Sounds bad ass at high rpms. Any big plans for yours?
Also I see in your sig that you are going to sell the 2gnt? New project car? I haven't been around the forums as much as I used to so I miss a lot.

Nice runs man, the car looks great.

Small world. I haven't seen him since last summer when I first got my VR4 but we used to be in the same car club, when I had the Eclipse and he still had the MX3, when it was supercharged. How do you know Jeff, besides the fact that your friend bought his old car? I thought someone in Canada bought it.

I don't really know Jeff, I just know of him.. if that makes any sense, he had a really good website and I read up a lot on what he had to say back in the day when I wanted an MX-3.. he's a super knowledgeable guy, and the setup in that MX-3 is amazing, for a turbo car making as much power as it does, it is reliable as hell. Plus it sounds insane going full out!
Yeah me and my friend are both up in Canada here, in Calgary, AB.. he's owned it for the last three years almost now, I still remember when he bought that car we all went out and sat the car in his garage for a few hours just admiring it. The car is still the exact same as it was the day Jeff sold it, except now it has Pirellis on it instead of those drag radials.
