I would like to say that I'm very impressed with these forums and after learning look forward to giving back to the community.
My Talon has 122,000 miles and seems to run strong.5 speed, new clutch!

Now I'm a novice mechanic, I have been doing extensive reading however.
Upon purchasing this 16g turbo with the filter and BOV and the piping from the turbo to the intake.
Im getting the exhaust manifold from another close friend that will work with my 420a block.

I was told it was safe to run 7-8lbs of boost and that I would need a AFC and a boost gauge.

Can anyone shed some light on this,

Thank You, Smoosh
BTW: I paid 600$ for it all

Why would you need an SAFC? You will need a FMU or some other sort of fuel managment. Sell the SAFC and get some real fuel managment.

You will also need some sort of fuel cut defender, the missing link is popular and seems to work well. And don't forget the fuel pump either....walbro 255lhp at least.

He just said AFC--So that's some type of air/fuel controller. could be MS, or FMU of some type. I'd personally recommend the MS.

Sure it is. But an SAFC alone isn't going to do him any good, hence the above comment.

Hell, "FMU" stands for "Fuel Management Unit". That could apply to half a dozen devices also. I won't even get into the possibilities for the "MegaSquirt".

Got it guys emoji I read it as though it was just a way to control fuel, which is what he'll need. I didn't interpret it as just the Apexi SAFC--more as just "some device to put more fuel in when I see boost". Sorry for the misunderstanding emoji

No that is not what an AFC Does, the 420a ECU does not understand boost. An AFC is Apexi's old version of the SAFC. The two are slightly different, one is digital and one is an old analog knob style. An AFC or SAFC alters the map sensor signal to the ECU to make the ECU see more or less manifold pressure, the ECU in turn will the adjust fuel trims based on the adjusted manifold pressure.

There are side effects to this method so thorough reading and searching is reqd.
