Ok here is the situation. I just bought barely used s16g for my car and after I got done installing it I took it for a drive around the block to check for any issues. Once I get back I see that oil is slowly leaking from where the oil feed like taps into the turbo. So I remove the feedline and tighten down the nipple that bolts directly to the center section of the turbo and it breaks off flush.

So my question is how do I get that out without getting any metal shaving in the turbo itself, because the bolt was made of yellow brass and its non magnetic so you can use a magnet to get the shavings out. And also where do I get a replacement peice for that? Would a local shop carry a bolt like that?

Use a Easy Out to get the left over pice out of the center section.
You can get them at places like sears or possibly a local harware store (they will aslo sometimes come in a tap and die set as well)
As for the nipple if it what i think it is (dont quote me on this)(-4an to 12mm x 1.5)
you can get that at summit racing
and i have an extra one sitting around thay are aluminum though.

Suggestion: When you actually DO get around to taking the thing out with the easy out or some other way, put some compressed air on the outlet port (blowing up into the center section) to avoid crap falling in.

Just a thought.


You can always take the turbo off, buy some earplugs and block the oil feed line with a bolt and drive it. Not ideal, but not permanent. Also, McMaster-Carr has a lot of stuff like that, and ships fast. Who knows, you might be able to call and have them rush it to you.

how about put it in a vise upside down and if you used some moly dee which is tapping oil that should collect the rest of the shavings

Of course, you probably don't have to drill. I'm assuming there's still the hole in the center right? Put some grease on the easy out when you pull it just in case there are some small filings, do the air like I said before and run some oil through it when you're done and you'll probably be okay.

OK I am going to run over to sears after work and get the easy out! I will use the grease and air method to ensure no filings have made their way in. I will be sure to post pics and do a write-up if I am successful at this method!

Thank you guys...I really appreciate all your help so far. Is there a certain torque spec for that bolt? I just don't want to over do it again, but I also don't want oil spilling out either. When you all installed yours...did you use any type of teflon tape of any sorts?

Plus who would carry that bolt? Remember I don't have time to order anything.

If anything, I'd use Teflon paste, not tape. you'd never want a piece of tape working its way loose into that center section. you noticed a minor leak, right?

Yah it was just a minor leak! Some background on the issue...I just replaced the older turbo with a newer one and just swapped the oil feed bolt and oil drain fittings over to the new one and took it for a test drive...once I went around the block once and boosted it at 7psi like I always did on the older turbo I pulled up in the drive way to double check my work and check for any issues and noticed a little oil seepin out of the fitting...so I tighted that bolt just a tad and snap. Must of overtightened it from the start. Is there a certain torque spec for those bolts? I never had any issues of oil leaking on my old setup.

I really do want to thank everyone that has helped with comments and ideas so far.

sounds like you have a banjo bolt and you should always buy new banjo washers when you swap to a new turbo. As for getting that bolt? Any harley dealer may have one depending on size. Harley will carry 10 and 12mm, i doubt they have larger, performance shops may have them also. Now if you have an elbow fitting with a 3an/4an then you can get that at any performance shop.

All the 16g i have seen (its only been a few) have an elbow fitting, not a banjo fitting. You keep describing a bolt so that makes me wonder what setup you have. For the tiem it took you to read all these posts, you could have overnighted the fitting.

I am sorry when I say bolt its only because I don't know the name of the actual fitting/bolt that broke.

Its the fitting/bolt that you screw directly into the center section of your turbo...then off that fitting/bolt I have another fitting that makes an elbow that you screw your feed line too.

So it goes feedline----elbow----fitting/bolt or as you called it banjo bolt. I snapped the one that screws directly to the turbo itself. I am going to take some pics after work and show in detail of what happened...but I really need to find a place to get that bolt before this weekend. We all know nothing is open on the weekends.

I don't have a mitsubishi turbo so I might not be that big of a help, but you could always go to the local performance shop and see if they have any AN fittings that would just go directly into that hole without having to fuck around with a banjo. I don't think they typically have anything like that in a metric size tho, so the harley dealership is your best bet.

Just got off the phone with the local Harley shop and they do have 2 banjo bolts in stock. So I will probably just take my old turbo down to make sure it fits right. Then go get the easy out and try and very carefully remove the peice that broke off.

I will be sure to post some pics.

well, thas kinda what i figured. Thats not a banjo fitting that is just an AN fitting with a npt thread on one side. Hard to tell from picts but i expect the npt to be a 1/8NPT X 4an adapter. You will need to get something like this at a performance shop. You can try a menards, they do carry flare fittings but the sizes do not match AN quite right. All you can do is try.

I am not sure on the threads that go into the turbo so dont quote me on it. Its hard to tell with the picts being so huge and also not seeing it in person. Best bet is to take your broken fitting to a speed shop.

For future reference this is a banjo fitting:



The bolt there is removable and you will find a copper washer on each side.


Edit: the more i look at your fitting, the threads look the same on each side which means you can get a 4an union and new washer seal to replace it. Obviously the union will have a flare on each side, so....one side you will need to file the flare off possibly for clearance into the center section. You leak is prolly because the seal got weak or bad from you swapping the fitting.

I hate to contradict anyone however, im almost positive that that is a -4AN to 12mm x 1.5 fitting. I went to hahn's site since you said that it was a S16G and it says in there that the oil inlet is a 12mm x 1.5 thread. And just to clairfy the 13g uses a 10mm x 1.25 inlet the 14b uses a 12mm x 1.25 inlet. Also like mentioned in the previous post make sure to get a new 12mm copper washer so the fitting doesnt leak. Hope this helps!

well since hahn isnt local he cant get it from them. If it is indeed a 12mm you can go to a harley dealer, and ask for a banjo fitting and bolt setup for 4an brake lines. Some dealers have them some dont, they are aftermarket parts. You will bolt the banjo bolt/fitting to the turbo and the AN line will tighten to that. you looking at 20.00 worth of chrome fittings. Of course thats if you cant find a speed shop in the area.

If you do get it from a HD dealer, it will be the best looking think under your hood! lol

The picture above is actually 2 pieces; there is a bolt, and a fitting. Different syles do look different. You are saying he tried a 12mm and 10mm and it didnt work? then your fitting is not 12mm X 1.5 like posted above. Harley all used the same banjo fittings. Sounds like you are going to have to take your fitting to a speed shop

Hey, did you try calling Millenium Autosports? they are in downtown Norfolk, they do turbo stuff all the time and should have plenty of fittings, just a thought...

Yah I actually stopped by there on Sat morning and they didn't have it. Talked to a couple guys there and the only place that has that fitting is a hydrolic shop down the street from them. They told me that is the only place they know of to get it...that and most hydrolic shops will carry it.

No performance shop had them in stock. I will just have to wait till Monday morning I guess.
