#90596, "Low vac at idle, cams?"

So, I'm pulling about 9vac at idle and I was wondering if maybe it was the cams, I have crower 2's with JE 8.8:1 pistons, and plan to run 15psi very soon, right now, I have no turbo on the car. I have looked absolutely everywhere for a vac leak and have found nothing, I was thinking because of the bigger cams, my vac would be lower at idle. My car runs great besides the idle which I made a lot better by bumping up the idle so it won't lope. Anyone, I really want to know why I am pulling only 9vac at idle, TIA. Help would be great.

I would first check your cam timing marks. Even one tooth off will cause the symtoms you have- rough idle, but off idle is fine. Not sure how much the crower 2s will effect idle quality, others who use them can comment on that.

Well, my marks align perfectly, but I did have the head shaved twice, I can't remember how much. I did however mess with my adjustable cam gears and retarded the intake cam 1.5 degrees and the idle got better and I got +2 more vac on my gauge. I tried advencing the timing on the intake cam 1 degree, but the idle got worse and power went to crap. I just don't know where to adjust the exhaust, or even if I should, I havn't gotten a single check engine light since rebuild. Thanks for the help so far though.

Ok, nevermind, I went -2 on the intake and then it idled like shit and vac went to 10, so I am stumped. I thought I read that with the crower 2's, you'll pull low vac, is that true? I really hope it is, anyone with crower 2's?

Same as any big cam. You're fine, don't panic.

FYI, if you have an ignition with timing retard control, that can also cause this. If you turn the timing knob on accident or a pressure switch goes to crap and pulls out a bunch of timing, you will see the same thing. I know this isn't the case here, but just so people know...there it is emoji
