#89743, "unplugging knock sensor?"

i see some ppl on here say they unplug their knock sensor to get an extra degree or two of timing. will this work for any turbocharged 2g or no? i understand that if knock occurs it will not retard timing anymore then i guess right>? does it throw a check engine code also if this is done?

91 civic hatch, homemade turbo+ LS motor = 12 sec street car.

Well it was working for me, it advanced timing a degree or two and lowered my EGTs durring normal cruising without any detonation and ran smoother at WOT with 14psi of boost. But today I went over 15psi for the first time and it was detonating horribly, so I hooked it back up to pull the extra timing I was getting from it removed and I didn't get any detonation, but I also only got to drive it over 15psi for less than 10 seconds before I blew off a coupler for my IC piping. Does anyone know exactly what my timing should be for 18psi? I'm doing 14psi daily, but I'd like to try 18 at the track next week on 93oct.

I dunno you'd have to check your timing with a logger. I'm not sure emoji My car is a little wacky, but it did run better without the knock sensor. I'd wait for someone who knows more about timing to post before you go and try it. Stock motor doesn't hold up to much detonation and thats what the sensor is there as a safe gaurd from. Better safe than sorry, especially on stock pistons.

I'm thinking about trying this out. I'll let you know what I find out after I log a few pulls.
