#89742, "possible to trick waste gate by using a restrictor?"
well my boost controller died and i normally run 8 psi . my waste gate alone will let me hit 6 but i was wondering if i could just put a small restrictor right before the wastegate in the vac line if it would maybe squeeze out an extra psi or so. or will it still fill so fast it opens at 6 psi? its an internal one.

A restrictor will cause the boost curve to look like a spike. Think about it.....pressure will rise in the compressor housing and due to the restrictor the pressure will also rise in the wastegate but not as fast. The compressor housing pressure will rise until the wastegate eventually sees the 6psi. When the wastegate opens nd the pressure drops in the compressor housing, pressure will drop on that side of the restrictor resulting in 6psi on each side of the restrictor. You will not be able to hold the 8psi (You can also spike very high causing damage) for more than a second, so on a long pull you will have higher boost in the lower RPM range and loose boost in the higher RPM ranges.
You basically need to bleed off pressure to achieve what you are looking to do.
Best advise is to search and make a manual boost controller. I know there is a writeup to make one out of Home Depot parts. Check with some of the 4g63 sites to find it. I know its listed with the "Free Mods" you can do to a turbo car.

ya but they suck. i have one of them made exactly to spec and it dont work right. it spikes to eight psi then drops to 4.. i dont know why, but i have way more power without it.

i found i can use a needle valve to do the same thing. i tried it and it seems to be working. i split a T right before the wastegate and the signal line goes to one side and the valve goes in the middle and the last part goes to the wastegate. by slightly opening the valve it lets me get to 8-9 psi again. seems to be working ok and no boost spike.
