My buddy just boosted his GS. He peiced together a kit and somehow made it work. He doesnt have any gauges or anyway of tuning at all yet though.

The car was idling good when everything was done, but it would hit fuel cut pretty bad. Thats when I came on here and was told it needed the missing link. We put that on, and its running twice as bad and twice as rich. There is a small vaccuum hole or whatever on the top of that missing link. If you put your finger over it or whatever it stops sputtering and idles good again.

What is needed next? He keeps asking me, and I have no clue. I dont know anything about it. He pulled his plugs yesterday and they were BLACK. Obviously he need to get something to help get it tuned, but why would that missing link make it run so much worse?

JUMPING JESUS ON A FUCKING POGO STICK!!!!!
first off, you need to get a smarter friend! second, you need to pull your head outa YOUR ass! A turbo, even when ghettoified is NOT something you just bolt one and fiddle with some knobs and screws to tune! your frined is a moron if he thinks he can... there isn't a "what is need next" solution to this... other than to rip it all off, get educated better about turbos and tuning and START THE FUCK OVER! tell your friend he need to get off his monkey-rigging ass and get on this board himself!
you wouldn't just grab a bunch of misc engine parts and do a rebuild with them, and expect it to run right. why would you with a turbo set-up?
that is just stupid! Holy shit... some peoples children....i swear!

did you say on top????????
you did plug the sensor back into the missing link right
there is a hole on the side of the ML for a filter

if you didnt bolt the sensor that came out of the manifold into the missing link that would give you problems

but i am going to assume you meant side and say put the filter in
if yours didnt have one
people here have used
cigarette filters
earplugs
whatever fits

and of course
listen to the above posts most of all

baxsom - Thanks, you actually helped us out. We didnt realize a filter went there.

tim97rs - Thanks for nothing. Also, why do I need to get my head out of my ass? Because I came on here and asked a question? I said I know nothing about it. My car is stock, I have a 1G AWD that I'm learning more about every day. I wouldnt try to boost my GS, I know nothing about it. Again, thanks for being an ass. You did nothing but waste my time as well as your own.

I know there is alot that comes with boosting the 420A, so does my buddy. He didnt just throw a bunch of shit together and slap it on there. What I meant by piecing together a kit was that he didnt just go out and buy a HRC kit, he purchased each peice as he could afford it. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have all the financial resources and knowledge as some of you do.

I thought this was a good place to ask questions?

you'right! i was an ass to you. there is no need for you to get your head out of your ass. that did not come across the way i meant...

this statement right here makes my scrotum shrivel. it does not in any way shape or form convay an air of compitence to the reader. the whole point of my rant was reagrding YOU coming on asking questions for someoen esle that is clearly lacking important brain cells. if indeed your freind is intellignet, you did not paint him in that light. However, if he infact did "peice together a kit" and "somehow made it work" all without tuning or guages... i am leaning towrds the "few fries short of a happy meal" ending.

i have never been able to tolerate stupidity, and coming on here asking us to trouble shoot your friends problems due to his own incompitence... is stupid. he clearly did not do enough "research", if any at all, if he didn't even know the ML had a filter.

i pieced together my first kit as well, and because i didn't have "financial resources" to buy an HRC kit, thats the very reason why i DID educate myself before "throwing it on". the last thing i wanted was to blow up my shit becasue i "didn't have any gauges or any way to tune"

it is, if they resemble something intelligent. we have strived to not cater to or engourage all the dumb punk-ass swinging dicks that saw F&F and "just had to do that" to thier cars. sorry, but if someone puts a turbo kit on their car and does so without guages or any way to tune it, AND doesn't know about the filter in the ML... well... that speaks volumes about the "installer"

i say park the damn thing until he can get gauges and tuning done. no sense in blowing up the engine because he is short on money. those are just as essential as buying the turbo itself (gauges).

I told him that he cant try to solve his problems or get his car running good without all the proper things to do so. He hasnt been driving it much.

I forgot to mention, he did have Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons put in at least.

Lastly, I do respect everyones opinion on here. A lot of you guys know your shit when it comes to these things which is why I come on here. Just take a deep breath and think about how you're going to reply when you see things you dont like.

You'll like this. He got his turbo off eBay, it was supposedly a Garrett T3/T4 rebuilt and had 0 miles. When I went and checked it out, I had no idea what it was. It does say Garrett on the side, but I did a few searches for the numbers/letters on the side of the turbo I couldnt find anything. It starts spooling around 2500 rpms or so, and the wastegate opens up around 5500, it seems to be working fine other than the smoke....yea it needs rebuilt.

We found out what it is today. Its from a small 4cyl deisel tractor. We had to order a rebuild kit from some local place that does work on tractors. I'll have to get some pics for you guys.

Believe it or not, its all working. It just need tuned and all that jazz.
