Hey guys, I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to post. I have a 95 Eclipse n/t that I have officially decided I'm bored with and have decided to turbo the car. What I am curious to, is whether or not anyone on here has used an IHI RHB5 turbo on their custom turbo setup. I've looked at the turbo and seems to look like it bolts up to a t3 flange. Also, I'd like to know if any of you guys are using 50 trim t3 with a .48 a/r, because I've heard the things spool wicked fast, as does the IHI. My goals are moddest, as my bottom end will remain stock for now. I'm planning on running 6-7 psi for now.
If any of you guys know another turbo that would spool quick and pull hard to around redline, let me know. But it seems as if the IHI's and the smaller t3's are what I'm looking for. Thanks much, Beck
^^^^^^^^ very good advice. I've had nothing but trouble with trying to make that setup work and eventually sold the turbo and am now trying the 14b setup.
my last custom setup i used an IHI rhb5 off a subaru and i ran a 14.3@ 96 mph at the track with it. not too bad.. if i had slicks i prob would be in the 13's with that old setup . that turbo spools up so fast u cant even imagine. it was def a fun one to drive around with. i made an adapter plate to bolt on to my stock upper mani and then bolted the turbo on to that plate also . then welded all around it. im now running an eclipse 14B turbo . it has a lil more top end power to it and im also intercooling it .. i ran 8 psi on the rhb5 non intercooled when i put down the 14.3 . but ya it def will work . i like the 14b a lil better but i still have my other setup for a backup.
91 civic hatch, homemade turbo+ LS motor = 12 sec street car.
So the lag on the 14b and the rhb5 are approximately the same? I'm not too concerned with putting down crazy numbers at the track, and I'm interested in having a quick spooler for auto-x and for something fun to drive around town. I test drove a 2g gsx and the t25 was really fun to drive and spooled quick, too. Is the 14b still my best choice in that case? (did I mention I can get the rhb5 for $25?)
