#87865, "Who is running the gt series turbos?"

Is anyone running the GT series turbos? If so please give your comments on the turbo. Im interested in moving over to a gt35 or gt42. Ive noticed that some of them have V-Bands on them. Since thats what HRC uses on their downpipes, I wonder if i can make it fit with some modification.

Anyway.. how are these turbos?

James, the GT series turbo are know for being excellant in quality. I hae heard anyone using them complain. I know a few guys in the chicago dsm list that are very happy with them. I am sure you would be able to work the v-band is as well with slight adjustments.

I would like to see some numbers from that turbo too (gt35r).
I shouldn't talk, because i have to get my 16g actually running reliably but someone needs to man up -and just throw down the cash.

This would benefit the 2gNT forum very much to see some numbers from the GT35r. I know most people spend almost all of their money keeping these things running, but I'm sure their are plenty of people on the fence about buying one of these.

Besides wouldn't it be nice to show up to the shoot out come 1 month with some turbo bling?

What about timing, sui, aren't you still using the portfueler?

Time to go Megasquirt -you already knew the time was coming.

Too much stuff breaks w/out timing control.

I'm running a GT-28R. I love it! It seems to be the perfect size for our 2.0 for road driving. Insta-power!

I'm currently working on a GT35R setup. There are some 4G63 guys using them and very happy with the results. 600+ HP is possible on just the turbo (no nitrous). It's not for the average joe, though... expect heavy intake and head modifications along with a custom set of cams to really make the setup work good on a 420A.

The GT42 series is too big for street use and you're going to need to use nitrous oxide injection to get it working for you.

And James, how do you have timing control? You're not talking about a MSD box with simple timing retard, are you? Because that's not going to cut it with the 600+ HP turbos out there.

Anyone crack 600+hp out of a 420A yet? It's gotta be possible.

hahn got 600hp way back when (2002, I think, maybe it was 2003). I found a post where people were talking about the limits of the forged pistons and rods, and Hahn said 1,000hp for the pistons and rods and the crank, nobody knew, but he had a 600hp car ripping around with no problems on the stock crank.
plus, there are plenty of Neon guys who have gotten 600hp. turbodave is the first one that comes to mind, I'm not sure if I got his name right, but he also has converted his car to a distributor ignition (most complicated install evar) and is currently going for some ridiculous number like 700whp.

are you sure....i was pretty sure Hahn only hit 500hp. 100 of it was nitrous.

yep here it is.....

"Hahn RaceCraft is proud to bring you PortFueler! This new innovation will inject that extra power you crave into your Hahn RaceCraft turbosystem. This revolutionary fuel alternative allows you to bolt on a complete set of boost enrichment injectors, yet have those injectors in the ideal position at each intake port. Using the PortFueler, you can achieve up to 400 HP from the Super 16G that came with your Hahn turbosystem. With a Super 20G, almost 500 HP is possible!"

A gt42 shouldn't be a problem if you have a stroker motor.

Riiiight... maybe a 2.4L that's been stroked. The GT42 is a big ass turbo and should only be used on an ALL-OUT RACE 2.0L including nitrous oxide injection. We're talking 800-1000 HP.

AMS's evo is putting down like 630-640 awhp with a gt35r and a 2.3 liter stroker motor tuned at 35 psi. I'm sorry, but unless you are strictly drag racing a 420a, there's no need to go above that.
